Hi All,

I need someone to fit a new thermostat for the central heating. Not looking at the work to be carried out as a freebie. All I am getting is promises of a call back & that's as far as it goes. I think I will marry an Electrician next time around, hopefully a female one

I have already bought a new one (thermostat not wife) but it seems to only need 2 wires, the old one has 4. I do not feel confident to fit it myself.

Your problem is a common one.

Most decent electricians are too busy to be bothered with a trivial job like this.

The whole process is this:

Make appointment
Pack tools into van
Drive however many miles it is to where you are
Put new backplate on wall and connect wires up (5 minutes)
Write out invoice and finish the tea an biscuits that you have made.
Wait for you to find the cheque book
Put tools back in the van
Drive to the bank
Queue to pay the cheque in
Drive back home or on to next job
Later (at home while you are watching Eastenders in your nice warm house) he will be creating invoice and other paperwork to cover the job that he has done.

So thats why you are having a problem finding someone. It ain't worth it (unless you are happy to pay £80 or something).

The alternative is to realise that this site is dedicated to helping people DIY it.

So…..Post a photo of your old stat and the new one, with model numbers and we can tell you how its done.

Don't forget removing tools from van, on arrival home or some scum thinks they have the right to not only damage the van and help themselves to your tools, but also hinder your next job, as you have no tools and have to get van fixed.

And there is also the stop off for diesel!

Thanks for all the replies, I would love to DIY, it must be so easy when you know how. Above should be a link to some pictures, not very good ones.

The new stat is a Honeywell DT90E & the old one is a Honeywell T6360B the label also shows the following No's. 1028 & T40. Both of these have wiring diagrams on line - the picture on line shows it has a small light on the front right hand side ours don't have this, perhaps it is an older model.

The old one is wired as follows from left to right earth, No. 2 blue, No. 3 yellow, No.4 not used & No. 1 red they are in that order left to right.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Red in A
Yellow in B and
Blue in a separate connector block and position it safely out of the way.
