After Benefits Street comes...

Benefits Street - supported by Labour and Limp Dems.

Paradise Street - supported by Conservatives.

So vote UKIP!

Incidentally, a YouGov poll suggests that in the forthcoming EU elections, Lab will get the most votes, UKIP second and Tories third.
I just wonder whether, if these predictions turn out to be accurate, it might encourage more UKIP votes in the next general election.

I live in hope.

Ahh the forthcoming EU elections.. The best gravy train ever... Even our own politicians know they'd be better off as an MEP. ;) ;)

Unfortunately, the rich will always be with us. :( :( :(

It's true. There will always be rich and poor.

Communism attempted to make everybody equal. That didn't work, did it?

True but huge disparities between such lead to disaster. We havent learnt anything.

But what can we do about it?

If we attempt to take money from the rich (presumably by various forms of additional taxation) the rich will simply move to another country and take their money with them.

I think the government have to be very careful with variable taxation rates. Put up the highest rates even higher and the rich take their money elsewhere; set it at a reasonable level and they might stay here and pay up.

History tells us its never ended that way, but in a rather more bloody and brutal way. What have we learnt from history.... very little apparently.

billionaires are queuing up to come to medium-tax UK, where even the plebs who work in your house can read and write, have street lighting, fire and police, good public health, and banks that don't go bust. Paid for with taxes. The chances of bleeding to death in your car several hours after an unattended accident, having your children kidnapped and ransomed, or catching polio from your housemaid, are very low.

Very few billionaires want to go to low-tax Afghanistan.

I'm sure you're right. My point was that if taxes for the richest in this country are raised above a certain point, it is quite likely that at least some of the richest will look around for a better deal abroad.

Who mentioned Afghanistan?

They already do that while here.

you evade my point that most billionaires, like most other people, prefer to live in a place that is stable, prosperous, has an effective rule of law, and a healthy, educated population.

taxes pay for the public spending which achieves this.

Who do you know in the UK that has caught polio from their housemaid, or been unable to find skilled and literate workers, or whose children have been kidnapped and ransomed by the local armed clan?
