hello ther new to the site and quite new to diy but having a great time messing things up before getting it right.

i am after a bench mounted pillar drill and have reasonable budget (don't mind spending up to 200 quid). i just wondered what i should be looking for. i will mostly use it for woodwork and a bit of light metal drilling, nothing too substantial. can't see me needing to drill anything more than 15 cm thick. i do subscribe to the school of thought that buying cheap means you buy twicw so am after something decent.

any ideas/tips what to look for will be gladly received.

Loads of choice.....look at Axminster power tools or maybe there's something in the SIP range. Machine Mart is also a popular outlet.
The chucks will all hold 13mm drills, look for a powerful motor and a table that is raised and lowered with a rack system and you shouldn't go far wrong.

cheers guys it really is for enthusiast work nothing too big o i reckon a 13mm chuck is as much as i need. i read a lot about power ratings etc but i know from experience a good 350W tool can be far superior to a cheaper 450W tool hence why i asked for advice.
