Sorry, plane and aeroplane are completely different words. Electronic and transformer are an adjective and a noun (not written as one word as you have). A transformer us a wound device. There is no such thing as an electronic transformer.

Sorry, plane and aeroplane are completely different words.
Well, not completely different.
They are as similar as transformer and electronictransformer.
Why are they not different words?

Electronic and transformer are an adjective and a noun
Are aero and plane not?

(not written as one word as you have).
I thought you would find that more acceptable as you had with aeroplane.

A transformer us a wound device. There is no such thing as an electronic transformer.
A plane is a wood and blade device. There is no such thing as an aeroplane.

Aero and plane when when written as one word is a noun. No one has ever written electronictransformer as one word up to now. Aeroplane has been around ever since I can remember (over 60 years).

No, actually, "they" aren't.
Because there is no "they".
Fair enough, but separately they are.

A plane is a wood and blade device. There is no such thing as an aeroplane.
You aren't doing yourself any favours.
Merely quoting in the same context as winston to make the point.

It can't be a tree, a plane has only two dimensions, width and length, no height
The Platanus (In English know as the Plane or Plane Tree) are known for being tall around 98–164 ft I would say that's quite a bit of height. Since they can live for 2000 years can't really say they are something new. BAS did give a clue with the picture.

Fair enough, but separately they are.
But it's aeroplane not aero plane, or even aero-plane.

What's a seaplane when it's in the air, I wonder?

Merely quoting in the same context as winston to make the point.
But the context is "No one has ever written electronictransformer as one word up to now".

It's aeroplane and electronic transformer. You aren't making a point which does you any favours.

many words change their meaning over time, or acquire additional meanings. Like, for example, "sheds"...

Were winston to reply that those are not trees because they are not made of wood, what would be the response and what would be the difference from the transformer equivalent?
Maybe that type of tree should have a modifier.
I agree with winston over "transformer".

It's harder to agree over "electronic transformer"

Exactly. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The language or the dictionary? Surely the true purpose of a dictionary is to document a language, not to define it?
