If you were raising money for charity what action would you take to get sponsorship, and how quickly do you think it would take you to raise your target amount?

I have decided to try and raise at least £500 for Starlight Childrens Foundation.

http://www.starlight.org.uk/who-we-are/

At my age I think I'm a bit too old to run a marathon or climb the three highest peaks in Great Britain so I asked a few friends for ideas. The most popular one was to dye my grey hair an outrageous colour. Not just a wash in/wash out type of hair colouring but a full blooded dye that would take a few weeks to eventually wash/grow out.

I have set the initial target at £500 and when I have pledges to that value I will have it dyed the most popular colour selected by those pledging.

The colours to choose from are Bright Red, Shocking Blue or Luminescent Green.

Within 2 days I have had just over £200 pledged by work mates. There is also a twist, which is, if I manage to raise £1,000 worth of pledges I will dye it the two most popular colours selected. One half of my head one colour and the other half the second most popular colour.

Would any of you do something like this or would your other half stop you and suggest you do something less foolish?

I should add, my partner is 100% behind me in this and will be quite happy to walk out in public with me when it is done. She even wants to do the colouring herself!

Just for curiosity I have added a poll for the three colours.

Depends on which side of Stanley Park that you used to live :D I have gone for Blue.

I'm actually from the blue side but I supported the red side just to be awkward.

WELL DONE THAT MAN   wheres the blue one :D :D

I reckon green would be the most outrageous. Being seen in public with red or blue hair could be seen as support for a football team whereas green would look like a strange and ridiculous colour choice.

Without trying to be a wet blanket, and thus immediately becoming one, have you checked if your employer (if not self employed) is ok with it? I know.... what a killjoy :(

Have you considered a purple rinse

You have hair?!!!

Yes! And at the moment it is all my own!

Eddie. Yes that was the first thing I got. When I spoke to the MD, (If you want permission go to the man at the top), he said he would back me all the way. (Though no mention of a pledge yet). I told him it would not be a wash in-wash out 24 hour stint but a real dye that would need to last at least 3 weeks to cover all shift patterns. No problem at all he said.

As for photo evidence. If I post it how many of you will make a donation through my 'Just Giving' page?

Come on, make a pledge and help me to get to at least £500by 28/11/2014

Why are all the charity things looking like a whole lot of fun though. It should be hard graft, surely.???
Two weeks climbing Kilimjaro,(wonderful). Snorkeling with the sharks in south africa,(wonderful). Three gruelling weeks walking the shores of the Bahamas. (wonderful).

Sky diving, that's another one. Bucket list complete. :D

I don't get where the hard work comes into it.

a bit cheesed off

Not sure how that works Big All but you should be able to amend your details and remove your address.

Thanks for the payment though.
