Cooker gas oven on low

Hi All,

I have a relatively new gas cooker (Hotpoint) and the oven flame lights but is very low regardless of the setting I put it on (high) it just stays like that, doesn't go off.

I wanted to get an idea of what the issue is before calling out a Corgi guy.

I read around and found it might be related to the FFD/FSD (flame failure device), either its failed or not sitting properly on the flame.

I took some pics of the inside of the oven, can anyone check the attached pictures and confirm if the FSD is sitting properly? it looks a bit off centre to me.

I'm not sure what the other thing sitting on the flame is either..

There are two controlling valves to the oven, one is the flame failure device (FFD) which by BS is the first downstream valve, second is the oven thermostat which has a permanently open bypass rate (and only if the FFD is activated) and will only open to full rate when stat temp is demanded.

Therefore if nothing more than bypass rate can achieved when the stat is turned up and the FFD open (lit) then the thermostat valve is not passing gas, either the wax or the mercury vapour element has lost its action and a new stat will be required.

Only a competent "gas-safe" RGI (not Corgi) can fit this device as live gas from the float rail will need isolating then in-situ testing etc' etc'.

Just had a look at the instructions for a Parkinson cooker and they instruct you to set the clock before lighting the oven on setting 9
 
Thanks chaps, I have set the clock already and I'm thinking it might be the thermostat.

New cooker going belly up in 2 months.. nice! I'll see what Hotpoint or an RGI guy says and get back.

Guess who's just done his ACS?? Or is a Teacher?? You know what they say; those that can't do Teach.......... ;)

We always got calls this time of year to 'Turkey Burners' on gas ovens, this was where there was more Turkey baseting went over the over burner than the turkey & of course blocked it. Gas ovens are not common now & we're always pretty crAp for cooking anyway.

Automatic cooking what else would be on the fsd ?.

OP Just call the makers as your burner is clean and its not a spillage problem your fault lies elsewhere

I did not say it was the clock stopping it going to high flame, I asked if he had set the clock as on some cookers it affects the way the oven works, I have not worked on every oven from every manufacturer so it was just a suggestion to see if it solved the problem, if the problem is still there he aint lost anything.

No idea gas112, like I said it was just a suggestion, it wasn't the problem so nothing lost.
 
Hotpoint engineer came out and and replaced the FSD (thing located right of the burner)

All sorted now, full flame in 30sec, as opposed to 20min
