Smart meters

Be afraid,, be very afraid. If you pay your bill a few hours/days late they can cut you off remotely. I don't know why their calling them smart meters though, they don't actually save you any money. (that part is up to you) ;) ;)

Yes, there's a mod in the house.

Thanks anyway.
Mods are doing a sterling job, albeit with a somewhat questionable degree of bias and consistency from what I've been reading on here over the last couple of weeks out of idle interest. Anyway, best wishes and until the next time, which will probably be WKID's memoriam. TTFN.

Their licencing conditions would not allow it. Millions of homes have entry tees, so could be cut off with ease - but it doesn't happen.

Totally made up

By totally I presume you mean the statement is all false.

However, they are capable of remote switching.
Also, I think you should be afraid - one more means of control in place because they can.
They won't save you money - unless you don't use the higher bands which will be introduced.

It is indeed fortunate that energy supply companies are famed throughout the world for never making mistakes, and are never fined for deliberate or reckless wrongdoing

Worrying that in theory at least it would give a hacker, or other person with malicious intent, the power to switch off everyone's energy supply.
I never believe "it can't happen because of the security" etc.

The only "smart" I really see in energy metering is that the bills usually smart when they come! :)
