Keyfobs / Prox Tags

Hi all,

Just a quick one, do you have to use Texecom Keyfobs ? Or will any brand work (but with issues) ?

I ask as someone I know is installing an alarm (Tex 48 with prox) and has Castle Care keyfobs that are new but unused. Will they work ?

Not a fan of prox tags full stop, when I do have to use them I always stick with those specifically from the manufacturer of the panel (expensive), avoids any confusion or doubt.

If they are the normal Castle fobs, then no, they won't.

I got a few tags with my newly installed alarm thinking that they would be really convenient and to be honest I am regretting it. The tags are a real weak link in the system. You really need to be on top of where they are and whether I have misplaced one. Also the convenient place to keep the tag is on the home key bunch. This isn't that difficult for an intruder to locate. Most people would have them somewhere practical downstairs - unless you take them with you to bed every night.

I agree with the prox tags not being a good idea, however.... It is handy when missus has 2 kids in toe and pram to manage and loads of shopping when I'm at work, easier for her to walk in and 'bing' the alarm than have to stand and type in the code (not hard admittedly) but it is when trying to maneuver shopping and kids.

I take the house keys (with prox tag and car key) upstairs at night, last job of the night double lock the front door and set alarm, walk up stairs with key in hand, not exactly hard to do.

Take this scenario: Person is in a bar/restaurant/internet cafe etc, keys and wallet are in jacket pocket/handbag...
One of the most common items i would say to have in wallet/purse is driving license, which has your address, and sometimes in jacket/ mostly in handbag is also your keys + this alarm fob.

pick pocket takes said jacket/bag... the pick pocket now:
a) knows your not home (someone else maybe but they will only know that when they go pay a visit)
b) knows your address
c) has the ability to get into your home + disable the alarm without forcing entry...

All potentially before the owner even knows the jacket/bag is missing...

Tags for my alarm? used only by my trusted key holder to use in case of emergency/police requiring entry etc. Never by a daily/occasional user.

I don't think I know anybody who has the need to carry a driving license with them 24/7, do you? if so why?

Take this scenario: I'm a man so I don't have a hand bag (or man bag ), my house/car keys ALLWAYS stay in my trouser pocket along with my mobile in the opposite side pocket. If for any reason I get the keys and fob stolen and this skilled pickpocket is also a house thief and can guess my address then once the alarm is unset I'll received a text to tell me so on the assumption my phone hasn't been stolen as well.

Obviously a fob may not be suitable for all occasions and all users but they work well for me and my situation.

I am a key holder and the security company for the property will NOT allow the use of a fob to reset the alarm. It can be set with a fob but only a code will reset it.

Sorry i should have put - photo card driving license - which is useful as proof of address/age/ID - but the idea behind the card was for it to be carried at all times, while the paper counterpart (which is now gone!) stayed in a safe place...

Paulj48- I'm the same - keys always in one pocket, phone in the other, however my wife is the kind of person in the scenario i gave... keys and wallet in the handbag... as many women do, and a few men know who use jacket pockets rather then trouser pockets...

Do you think though that the average opportunist scrote who pinched a handbag for another quick fix would then travel to your home address and risk getting caught knowing that its only a matter of time before the bag theft is discovered/reported?

Guess that depends on the scrotes in the area you are living in and how opportunitst they really are...

Its not unheard of for said scrotes to call the owner of the property a few days later pretending to be the police and asking the victim to go to the station to collect belongings they have found... only to find out once at the station that no such call was placed by the police... They then return home to find the house ransacked...
