Perhaps corrosion have you tried a good squirt and soak of WD 40 or similar?
Yes, I sprayed it with penetrating oil but no joy,

Sorry out of ideas apart from attacking it with some form of brute force.
I assume it has worked before and you are not new to the house as some buttons push in to lock and are supposed to pop out when the key is turned, if so light tapping with the key in both positions might help.

Yes it's been working fine. The window is only a couple of years old.
Yes brute force to open it and new handle required, About £5 from most diy places.
Before you do, It may be worth giving your installer a call. Although generally the moving parts are only guaranteed for 1 year some company's will still do it free of charge to keep customers happy and keep them coming back for future work.

Looking that way.... Any hints in the best and safest way to lever it open?
Its basically just a little black plastic wedge shaped bit at the back of the handle. You may be able to push it with a scraper or if not just grab the handle with 2 hands, Push the button as hard at you can and just force it open.

Yes I was thinking a bit of pipe on the handle, but last resort try the thin blade idea first.
These people are good for spares and helpful might be worth ringing to order a replacement and pick their brains at the same time.
