I have a tall freezer and an undercounter fridge. They are both in perfect working order and still pristine internally, BUT they are both starting to rust.
The Indesit freezer is 4 years old. It's completely covered with dense rust spots all over the side (so unsightly that I've now covered the side with a thick vinyl material made for covering tables) and it's now dotted all over the front. The fridge, an Iceking 18 months old, has started to go the same way, with rust developing just beneath the lip where you pull the door open.
(BTW they are both indoors in a non-damp domestic kitchen. The washing machine which is next to the freezer has no rust on it whatsoever.)
I don't really want to have to fork out another £500 to re-buy these items just for cosmetic reasons. Is the some way to remove the rust, to make sure it cannot return, and to re-paint the doors and side with something?

<edited to add... I'm going to complain to the retailer about the fridge as it has a 2-year guarantee.>
