2 way switch issues

Hi,

Plasterer kindly ripped all me lights out and now im pulling my hair out instead!

Got Two lights in front room not working, out the board to dining room then to front room working.

Between Both ceiling lights coming out i've got.

Light 1 - Two Red, Two Black, Blue, Yellow and a Red
Light 2 - Two Red, Two Black, Blue Yellow and a Red

In the loop i've got the garage next (not working), then into a next room (i think) not working.

Is anyone willing enough to help out how the Two Front rooms need to be wired as I think this is causing issues for me in the loop.

Are we taking about ceiling light wires or the ones at the switch, were any or all of these removed?

These are ceiling light wires yes.

At switch In front room I have yellow L1 and L2 blue, and red for COM (presume and hope these are between switches!)

I think the issue (i can't work out) is using the 3 core to power the second light off first light?

Plasterers came in and I didn't label/write it down, such a muppet but i've never done wiring so i'm learning quite a bit here ableit painfully.!

Is that all the cables? none poked back up in the ceiling?

Are these 2 lights that are ripped down in 2 different rooms? I can't quite follow the description in your first post.

I take it with the 2 gang switch, 1 switch switches lounge light1, and the other switch switches lounge light light2?

Are any of the wires still joined together at the lights positions?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it? If not you will likely need to call an electrician as each of the cables need to be correctly identified before there is any hope in getting it working again.

Why did your plasterer think it was appropriate to disconnect parts of your lighting circuit and then leave you without lights in half of your house?

Both switches are single and control on/off for both lights.

At the moment they work, got Three red connected on both roses, blue to black and yellow to black (switch live) on closest rose.

This is a bit of a minefield so I think i'll need to get a sparky in here to trace it all back, but whats winding me up is I am close here as I can get some of the ring working.

Right! OK! I read that 3 times and still didn't get it! That makes it much, much easier. If you can post a photo of the wiring in the 2 roses we should be able to quickly explain it.

Looking at this, i must have something up the ceiling??? I need two black/two red and a r/b to switch?

Here you go, this is ceiling light one....Second is connected the same.

That looks correct at that light. Are they exactly the same? Including a black wire with a red sleeve/tape around it? If there is no red sleeve/ tape around a black wire then the other light should be different and have the yellow switched live going to the live of the light fitting only. Blue and blacks to the neutral of the light fitting. All reds together in a seperate connector.

BTW i know this dosen't help but here is the way the first light is connected (i think)...on second rose i've got two black, two red and the 3 core.

Now my thought is the second R+B on the second light rose is next in the ring to my garage (that isn't working?) I've got no switched live coming out to the second light socket

The orange arrows showing power in and out are just for information as power could be coming in or out of any of the arrowed cables. The cable with the red tape around the black will go to the first light switch as shown in the awesome drawing. I would not expect there to be more than the three core and earth cable going between the lights as there would be no point in wiring it in this way.

That would be pointless as there would be 2 permanant lives and 2 neutrals. I am sure there will be no red and black cable between the 2 lights as there is no need for it. One of the 3 red and black cables will be a supply cable the other 2 will be to other lights somewhere else. The red and black with the red sleeve around the black will go to one of the switches. The Red and Blue cables of the 3core and earth carry power through the light fittings. The yellow wire carries the switched live so the second light comes on with the first. Look at the diagram again closely!
