Hi all,

I'm seeking for help with some multiple faults with my boiler and central heating.

I got a Baxi 2 Megaflo 28 Compact GA boiler and it suddenly stopped supplying hot water about two days ago (no big issues before except re-pressuring). I tried to reboot it however it lost power completely when I turned it off. The Honeywell central panel is functioning properly.

I called in a British Gas folk to assess the situation and he commented the following:

1. It may be the problem with PCB so it cannot be switched on
2. Our vertical flue has no support so need to get it done before any work
3. There is a minor leakage in the pipe beside water cylinder

The boiler is 4 years old and we moved in 4 months ago.

So my question is whether I should call original installer to see if they can get all fixed or I have to seek Baxi for the boiler and another plumber to deal with point 2&3.

The flue is quite firm and I wonder if there is an actual need for brackets, also will this be potential problem that my boiler is not working???

I've attached some pics here

Many thanks!!!

No reason why you shouldn't call the original installer, but if you're expecting anything to be done for free you're going to be disappointed. Are you sure the leak is actually a leak and not just some other residue? Your photograph of the flue is cr@p so I can't comment on that, because it's too dark to see anything clearly. As for the boiler, get a price from your local chap and from Baxi to repair. Might be cheaper to get Baxi to do a fixed-price repair on it.

Thanks so much for the advice . The BG guy says it's a leak but the water doesn't actually drop onto the floor. Is it alright to get the boiler fixed first and get hot water running then deal with the flue brackets?

Impossible to say without being able to see the flue, see earlier comment about your photo being crap. If the boiler is deemed to be unsafe because of the lack of brackets, that will need to be sorted first

The no power isn't something stupid like a pulled out wire? Why is the electrical cable installed like a washing line?

Have no idea how it is installed in the first place. When I turn on the central panel, I can hear the boiler making sound but just no sign on the monitor!.

On what basis did BG call out? Have you a service contract with them, or was it a fixed price deal? If the latter, why did they not fix it?

They would have commented on the missing brackets, as they should have been fitted on the installation. You could argue the original installer was wrong to not fit them, but you have no "contract" (with regard to consumer rights) with him so probably cant force the issue. Did BG leave a warning notice for insufficient supports?
The brackets will not have any bearing on the malfunction, but any RGI will insist that they be fitted as an overall repair approach.
Strip insulation to have a better look at the leak. That could probably be left until boiler up and running

The boiler, I believe, was subject to a recall by Baxi. But they would have to know where it was fitted! Has it been registered and serviced since installation.?

Hi, thanks for reply, I was calling them on fixed price deal + subsequent cover. They said they couldn't fixed it until the flue is supported and bring me into the contract. I am thinking just about calling the original installer and see if they can get both the boiler and flue fixed up.

:rolleyes:Hardly a nightmare, turn on the immersion heater and a use a couple of electric heaters. Worlds gone soft

Immersion heater fails too...... Called up Baxi and they said they have no engineers that cover my area

Where do you live?

Why don't you want to call an independent and get everything repaired?

Tony

They, presumably, gave you a quote for the rectifications?

Bg can repair it and leave it at risk, but can't take an at risk appliance onto a contract
