Hi all!

Just joined up today as looking through some of the articles the knowledge base seems awesome.

I am looking to get some advice on whether it would be possible to replace our current towel rail radiator in our bathroom with a larger one. No idea if this is possible or would this require completely different sized fixtures/pipe work etc.. to accomodate the larger radiator?

The current radiator only ever gets luke warm so we wanted something with a bit more kick. Failing that, is it possible to get replacement valves for these as both were missing when we moved in?

Thanks a lot for any help or advice you can offer

First work out why it only gets luke warm. Do other radiators get hotter? Are the vavles open?

Thanks for getting back to me endecotp. Yeah
the valves fully open. Other radiators are hot and this one is to touch but just doesn't seem to heat the bathroom

Towel radiators will heat / dry towels but not really heat a room.
Look for towel radiators of similar dimensions and see what their power outputs are (I would look in the Screwfix catalogue).
Consider replacing it with a normal radiator.
A taller towel radiator of the same width would be reasonably easy to fix.

I agree with endecotp, towel warmers (to give them their more appropriate name) when uncovered, emit less than one third of the heat of a single radiator of the same size. This is then reduced even further when they are covered with insulation (towels)

But your info is confusing:
The current radiator only ever gets luke warm

Other radiators are hot and this one is to touch

If the radiator is only luke warm, then you will need to investigate the associated plumbing.

That's great. Thanks for the responses guys. Endecotp, think that's the information I was looking for and seems to add up with the lack of heat in what is a tiny bathroom. I'll investigate this route further

You need to find out why your existing towl rail is not hot first other wise a new rad wont be any different
