Microsoft Edge HiJack

This browser has been hijacked on my PC, not sure how, as I don't use it. Anyway it keeps launching with piles of shyte on it regarding updating drivers, cleaning pc, repairing pc, download video program and much more carp besides that. Clearing cache does not solve it.
I have turned the live tile off, but PC is running slow.
I have Mcafees Livesafe which has not detected this and they now want £120.00 to remove the Hijack infestation.
Anyone have a fix for this, ideally would like to send edge to oblivion but if that cannot be done at least clean this problem up.

I don't know, but I use Norton, and they have online (and phone) support. On a few occasions I have let them log on to my machine remotely to fix problems.

Assuming you have a paid-up subscription, see if Macaffey do something similar. Perhaps you can connect using Firefox or Chrome.

Meanwhile, if not already done, back up the data to disks or sticks.

I wouldn't trust Macfee with a bargepole, even though it's the freebie that comes with most new Pc's. You could try switching it off, and switch on windows Defender instead. I've used Kapersky, but it's not very intuitive - even though it scored higher than Norton in last years tests - and if you renew before the end of the year, you start the new subscription straight away. In the end, I always trust Norton to work sensibly.

If Defender doesn't solve the problem, try downloading AVGs free software.

Well if we can call mcafee Hijackers yes, mcaffe are asking 120 GBP for removing the infestation!

I did contact them and allowed remote access, still not solve issue. I also contacted Microsoft as it is their pyss poor product, but they could not remove either unless I succumb to their Dick Turpin ways!

I pay a subscription to Macfee, so not freebie by no means! Looking for a tool that removes the Hijacking of browsers or that incinerates edge, but I have found edge cannot be removed, might just send windows 10 to room 101!

I wonder if that's why Macaffee give their software away on new PC's - it brings to mind all the old stories whereby the virus's were written by the antivirus guys.

I know a country that has recently had an outbreak of skilled people offering internet security. They tend to start up shortly after finishing their National Service. Perhaps it is a coincidence.

I'd give this a go and see where it gets you. Seems there are ways to reset MS Edge.

I have managed to persuade Mcafee to remove the ad-ons and clean up the system, free of charge! So all sorted now. I did find if I turned the MS edge browser tile off, this stopped the pop-ups but PC still run slow.

Bit of an old thread I know but here is a list of useful software which can help should you get Trojans - Viruses etc.

The first is get rid of Norton - Mcafee - AVG or similar they are bloated and lazy antiviruses which slow your system down
Install something like ESTNOD but remember windows has its own inbuilt AV since windows 8

Install AntiMalware bytes this has real time protection as well as picking up a load of stuff that other AV's miss

Hijack this by trends micro is a useful piece of software as it lets you see what is going on in your start up processes and browser, this is very useful if you have had your browser hijacked, it will tell you what is starting and where it is located. Not a novice program though.

Spybot Search and destroy is a powerful tool which not only protects your computer but adds preventative measures by blocking known browser through a utility called immunize, it does deep scans with more configurable tools. I would not use this as my main AV but more of a maintenance tool.

Use of all these tools periodically or when you have an issue should clean your PC without the need to spend out.

I'm assuming you are inadvertently misquoting that.

Using Windows 10 and relying on the inbuilt Windows Defender, I have installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. Both are highly regarded and, although I have the free versions, additional protection is provided if you go for the paid-for versions.
