Glue for UPVC pipe

Hello,

I need to join two white 22mm UPVC pipes together by means of a 90 degree white plastic elbow. What kind of glue could I use? I only need a bit of it, could I use PVA?

PVA disolves in water! What are the pipes used for?

You can buy small pots of the correct solvent weld adhesive. Do it properly.

The pipes will be used for an overflow, so there will be water.

Then you better get that watertight! Either do what 45yearsagasman said and use Solvent Cement, or if you got some spare Plumber's Mait you could use that.

Be aware that there are two types of 21.5 mm over flow pipes!

One designed as push fit. Pretty good really I find.

Other as solvent weld!

You need to buy the one that you decide to fit.

How long would I need before testing the overflow connections once Plumber's Mait has set?

I think it never fully sets, so it should be tight almost instantly.

Just get a tub of solvent cement, it's the right stuff to use, couple of quid for a small tub. Plumbers Mait will not stop the connection from being pulled apart if it's stressed at any time and then it's water everywhere if there's an overflow.

Soil vent stacks "don't usually hold water" so I guess plumbers mait is fine to use??

Thanks for the update! It will need to be strong since the overflow pipe will need to go through the cavity wall to the outside, in which case solvent cement seems the right stuff used by plumbers for this purpose.

Any PVC waste that needs to carry waste water will need solvent cement to guarantee water tightness and mechanical strength.

Was at a job last week, basin waste was dripping and lady of the house called. Husband put in new basin, "he can't get it to stop leaking" she says. One pull on the waste pipe and it came apart, solvent weld elbows, no glue, husband thought it was push fit.... doh!

Just bought 22mm pipe and 90 degree elbows. It say 'push fit' on the pipe. It's quite hard to push the pipe into the elbow, I need to twist and turn but it still does not go all the way. Have I got the right materials? If so, will it be tight enough to prevent a water leak or do I still need to put solvent cement? Or do I need to buy perhaps a 21.5mm pipe?

I need to put the overflow through a tight hole in the wall, so it needs to be pretty tight.
