Just after leaving the checkout (literally), I got stopped by a security guard demanding to see my receipt.

I understand there is a lot of shrinkage, especially at this time of year, but I had literally pushed the trolley about 5 yards from the checkout.

Of course, I was still in the store, so even if they had found something not paid for, they could not lawfully stop me and accuse me of leaving the premises without offering payment for goods in my possession.

I told the guy this, but he was adamant.

Anyone else encountered this?

Haven't you suffered enough enduring IKEA, I think I'd have politely declined his offer.

Turn the table?

Ask for a full refund? on all the goods you have recently purchased, and demand the Manager be present! make a fuss, attract other Customers to this event?

Just a thought.

Ken

sometimes, they check the items scanned with the items you have, often people pack things to conceal other items, or swap the tags so a cheaper product is scanned rather than the item you have.
Also staff are known to pass items through, without scanning for friends and relatives, so it also deters that

Surely no self respecting criminal would be stealing from Ikea. Must be really desperate.

I had my first visit to Costco this weekend, all trollies are checked against receipts at the exit, did not find it a rewarding experience

that's the trouble with this country nowadays .

blimey I remember the days when u could leave your key in the door , car unlocked etc etc

good old fashioned trust has gone down the collective toilet !!!!!!!!!!!! I dunno ??

still mustn't grumble Brexit is likely to bring back those good old british value's of "trust" "honesty" "decency"

Yep Brexit will transform society & when the remoaners see that these good old British values are ounce more at the pinnacle of all of our lives they will say hurrah for the brexiteer's ;)

I used to leave my key in the door.

Came back once and - would you believe it? - it was gone; couldn't get in.

Never again.

Crime is generally going down over the years. It was at its worst during WW2.

Reported crime is down. People don't bother to report crimes now as the police do F uck all. Unless you are a 1970's "personality " then they will harass you to your grave & beyond. Wonder if they will ever start investigating "historical burglaries " ?

The British Crime Survey allows for crimes not reported to the police.

Remember that a lot more people have household insurance that did in the golden years you think you can remember, so have more reason to report a loss.
