Caulking new door frames

Hi,

I'm aware that my newly fitted door linings and architraves need to be caulked where the architrave meets the wall but I had a few questions please:

- Do I caulk before or after the primer?
- Do I caulk around the door jamb and is this everywhere where it meets the door lining?
- Finally, assuming the answer to the above is yes, will it affect the integrity of the door closure if I caulk the door jamb on the side the door closes?

Should be no need for caulking anywhere on new installation unless it's bodged.

Two useful rules:
1) Use filler, not caulk, for gaps wider than about 2mm.
2) Prime before caulking.

thanks all. The link was very useful and I now intend to use filler in the corners where the architrave pieces meet. There are very fine gaps here but this should help.

I intend to fault the small gap between the architrave and the wall but still unclear on where the door jamb meets the door lining. Again, the gaps is less than 2mm. What's the recommendation here?

I would tend to use wood filler for that as a first choice, but white filler will also do. Sqirt it into the gap, allow to set, then sand smooth.

Not sure what you mean by this. Are you in fact talking about planted (i.e. glued/nailed on) door stops?
