Ironic that parliamentarians (master architects of versions of "the truth"), are going to sit in judgement of others doing much the same.

Whilst I would not disagree with your take on some MPs (versions of truth) I do not think it is a fair assessment of the majority of MPs.
I also would agree that 'fake news' can be dangerous when it is propagated and perpetrated for political purposes. I also would agree that the media (internet/broadcast based and physical news outlets) have a responsibility to verify stories and to expose and oppose known fake news stories.
I find it interesting that by forming such a comitte the government is basically admitting that social media has more influence on people than 'real news' or even 'real life'... You'd think instead of trying to stifle it they would jump at the chance to use it for the dissemination of their own party propaganda. Seems like an opportunity missed.

What about some people's assertion that anything some of us link to is false? (even when it's from verifiable sources) Not so much "fake news " as denial of what's really happening in the real world.

Nobody, not even the BeeB, knows what's actually true anymore.
It all started with aeroplanes flying into buildings, princess's boyfriends getting their heads chopped off, marathon spectators with no legs getting their legs blown off & gunners who never went to any school getting murdered in broad daylight by low level MI5 op's.

I too thought conspiracy theorists were all nutters . . . until I saw those 2 buildings collapse. My missus can vouch for this but the words I uttered at that very moment shown live on TV were "that isn't possible". Dork isn't an architect, Dork is a highly qualified & experienced physicist who fully understands that the weight of the floors above cannot possibly destroy the structure of the floors below.
Dork knows explosions, Dork played with explosives as a child when they were universally available from all good agricultural merchants pre the IRA days of the 70's. What happened in Boston wasn't an explosion per se. What happened was purely theatrical, just a little bit more Ooomph than a stage maroon.
I don't know exactly what happened when that car drove into the underpass, very few do. But I do know how they caused it to crash. The same method used to kill Ian Stewart Donaldson.
Ask me how I know this to be true. It's not because I have a finely honed 6th sense, nor do I think the world is about to end. I know these things because I'm awake, I have 2x eyes, 2x ears but only 1x mouth & 1x brain.
You think that everything you see & everything you hear is truth, yet you are so easily fooled by exactly those same methods.
Dork once read an article in the very same tabloid that spent £100's of 000's trying to find the truth behind the Soham murders, it said that Maxine was now enjoying a blissful life in a seaside town somewhere on the east coast. Dork knows that wasn't true because Dork was working on her house a few days before.
