More threads vanishing

The thread in the plumbing section which is nothing to do with plumbing but moaning about mods? Is that the thread you mean?

Who's the site owner? Maybe I can allege discrimination as I'm a man in Surrey, supporting Trump and Brexit ( well I can say I am )

The site owner is William Martin, [email protected]. You can do a lookup of the domain name, and get loads of info. The problem is that one of the mods will very likely intercept the email, so you'd need to get a lot more info to make sure you have the right person.

His address will be available for free online at several different company check sites. He won't give a monkies though. So long as the ad money is rolling in and I don't see how disagreements in gd will affect that. TBH does anybody really give a poo anyway?

True but are we going to let the mods control what we can and can't say?

They don't. In the real world we carry on as normal. If someone feels the need to "win on the internet" no harm done to us. Bit of banter while your waiting for a film to come on or for a boiler to warm up at work is fine. If it ever starts to really matter to you its time to walk away.

It seems to me that most of the locked or erased threads have contained a lot of unpleasant language and Mods should act to remove that.

I am a moderator on a section of an American based forum and the "rule" is no personal insults no matter how much you disagree with ( or even hate ) the content of a post or the opinion of the writer. There have been some very intense conversations between people with totally opposite opinions but so far in several years only three or four posts in "my" section have had to be edited.

This DIYnot forum seems to have aquired a few posters who are quick to shoot down the messenger with personal insults and slow to challenge the actual message

I get the feeling people think this is some form of country and the people can revolt and the mods will have to do whatever you say. The posts recently that have been locked or removed that I see were all for a good reason and I am disappointed it didn't happen sooner. If you are going to cry about insulting someone and having your post deleted I don't think a forum is the place for you.

Please click my name and ignore if you fall into this category chances are I will be doing it to you. :D

It's a tricky one to get correct imo - I've seen forums die a death because of heavy-handed mods, people just simply don't bother and walk away. I've been on a band's forum where the mods let people get on with it.
Tbh, the music one was the best I've been on, it was really good fun and people sorted themselves out and dealt with trolls themselves. I saw one person get banned in the years it was up and no posts deleted, and rarely locked. Tho this was pre-brexit and immigration as topics!

When I first discovered this general section here, I voiced my concern over the racism and racism labels - and someone told me if I didn't like it then I didn't have to take part. Fair enough.

I'm a mod on a Citroen forum. Never seen any unpleasantness , in fact it's all very pleasant and there are some very knowledgeable people giving good advice. Just as it ought to be and it seems more like the Screwfix forum.

This forum is fine. Most of it is people sharing knowledge about diy or their trade. A lot of people like to subtley express how wealthy they are or how successful they they believe themselves to be. It's only GD that suffers the political edge, most of the time, LOL. Ultimately John D will be here getting a virtual nosh from Nosey who is really rich and has a lot of friends all over the world while Himmys latest character chatters away aimlessly. Everyone else will take up crochet or weightlifting or summit else. Blightymam will get a job on tv as a "middle of the road anchor lady". I will rejoin the respect party after my dabble in the middle ground of interweb chat. :p
