Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

He has cut the length of down pipe running alongside the Garage wall too short, if it had been me installing it I would have put in a new piece of down pipe from the gutter to the barrel to match,
Has he fixed any brackets to the new pipe running from the back of the garage to support the pipe ?
I would say £100 including materials would have been exorbitant even for a neat job .

no, nothing.

he's offered to come back and sort it out - but do i really want this guy back ? if he couldn't do the job properly in the first place. i don't think so.

Do you have a nearby travellers camp? smacks of their work.
Did he leave you with his home address and number [not mobile]?

i don't think a traveller.
his business shares his surname, so family run business by the looks of it. or maybe just him.
he says all his work is guaranteed, and he does pick up his emails.
so seems legit in some cases, but as you saw by the pictures, quality of work, not so much.

The rotter, how dare he. You'd thing he'd get YOUR materials in his own time.
The cheek eh.

ok, some more info which i left off, so i suppose i deserve the sarcasm

he had said he'd only be 20 minutes.

he had said the job would take 3 hours and it was getting on in the day.

this is a minor thing in the scale of things though.

Ignore Noseall, he either hasn't read the thread from the beginning, or he thinks he's being amusing.

You've been ripped off, and you've got the sense to take it on the chin and find someone else to correct it. It's more than likely, that he'd try and charge you extra for the remedial work, so best left well alone.

thanks Doggit. Yes, every forum has one.

yes, for a couple of hundred £, i don't think it's worth the bother of getting him to fix it or to take this further.

an expensive, but valuable lesson.

ok noseall, can you tell me what you thought of the work done on my guttering (pictures in first post).

i'd honestly be interested to know since you are a professional builder.

you seem to be defending this guy; so does this mean you think his work was ok ?

The work is sh it. I could have done better with my eyes closed.

The guy is entitled to spend time getting materials and does nothing to bolster your argument.
If I'd have done it you would have been glad to pay me and it would have took little effort.

ok, thanks for explaining.

i'm really not bothered about the time to get materials. as i said, that was a minor issue (i.e. he said 20 mins, took 2.5 hours). it's all the other stuff i have a problem with.

The fact you are asking for opinions should be enough to tell you you are not happy or comfortable. Do not let him touch anything else.
The job is poor, 20 mins or 2 hours to get materials I do not see as relevant if he had quoted a price.
late in the day he could have been caught in school run traffic , merchants out of stock etc etc .
end of line probably £40.00 of mats, you paid him £260.00 hr. for an incorrect job.
I have said this more than once, Go for verbal recommendations rather than trade rated sites..

It needs a swan neck at the top, to bring the downpipe down against the wall and fixed with brackets. That's the crucial bit.
