Hi.2 weeks ago we have to disconnect our house alarm because i was to have render done.i switched the power off took the fuse out so thought outside sounder box will have no power in it.builder tried to unscrew the box and my surprise alarm went off.even cut the wire off still alam would not go off.opened the box and had to take the red sounder wire out.it worked.now render work is complete.i can connect the wire back in .question is when i power the alrm on would it work i mean the old password should switch the alarm off.or would it.thanks.

The bell box does not need a password, it has it's own battery so disconnecting it will not stop it sounding, new they came when I worked on them with NiCad batteries which can be left discharged for years in new condition, so they would be discharged when fitted, and would then charge, however once charged and active they could produce crystals which could short out the cell, if charged it would zap the crystals as they grew, but if discharged the short circuit would stop it charging again, so not sure if your bell box will be OK with a discharged battery, you can but try.

The sounder should work, just that it may not continue to sound if mains power and main battery were disconnected.

Mains power is off at this stage so is fuse out as well.battery from mains unit is not disconnected at all.only outside sounder box wire was cut off.i believe sounder has its own battery and box is temper proof.even main cable cut off it still was sounding thats why builder pulled the red wire off which must be possitive so it went off.its almost 3 weeks now main alarm box inside house has no mains power.would it drain out the battery or it should be ok.main question is when i connect the outside sounder box and power up the alarm should it still work with old password.

If the panel was left for 3 weeks with mains disconnected and the battery connected, the battery will be flat by now. It may recharge when power is reconnected. Or the battery may be ruined beyond repair. Or it may have already been useless - plenty are, which is why you often hear alarms blaring when there is a power cut.

The panel would normally retain any settings even if power is removed. However cutting through cables is not recommended and could well have shorted out the power supply and may have destroyed the panel. Perhaps just a blown fuse. Or it might all work perfectly and there will be no problem at all.

Ultimately the only way to know is to reconnect whatever was cut off and connect power. Anything else is just guessing.

power was switched off and fuse taken out before attempted to remove box out side.because it is temper proof sounder went off when tried to remove cover screw.this is why cable was cut but still sounding so inside box red wire had to be disconnected to quite the sounder.can we switch on the power to inside box to charge the battery before connecting outside sounder box.connecting the box is not difficult as all wires in box are still connected and i can copy the correct wires.only the batteryside is worrying if its still got some life in it.

If you have shorted out by cutting the 6 core to the bell, it will have blown a fuse in the panel.

If it is a modern panel, it should have a Non Volatile Memory or NVM to store the codes. Earlier models had no NVM so if the mains and battery were both disconnected, the system would lose the codes.

So exactly what is the alarm panel. If you want to switch the mains back on, and recharge the battery, then with the bell wire having been cut, you'll get a tamper alarm from the bell circuit, so you'd need to open the case, and put a link across the bell tamper terminals. I'd be tempted to get an alarm connector block, and connect the bell wire back up, then put the powere back into the alarm panel. As Secure has suggested, check the fuses haven't blow, and replace any that have. Do you have the engineers code, and the programming instructions just incase.

The panel may revert to 'Factory Settings' i.e. your password is not going to shut it up on power up! Factor setting is usually 1234 0r 01234 enter.

It depends what generation of RKP you have as to what you mean by the "top left light".

On my ADE RKP, the top left indicator is Zone 1.

What is your indicator labelled?

Is the DAY indicator on your RKP illuminated?

Or have you got an RKP in the main panel?

Thinking about it, you may well be better served by posting pictures here of the current state of the main panel and/or the RKP.

what is RKP
I am not very good on technology.how do i post photos.
One light at bottom right is power on indicator.top 8 lights are fore zones.zone one is flashing.

Zone one is normally assigned to the door contacts. When you open the door, you want to have enough time to get the the keypad (the RKP - remote key pad), so this zone is set as a timed zone, rather than a "go off immediately" zone, and as it went off after 20 seconds, then that's the amount of time set in the system to allow you to get the the keypad and enter your code. Oh, and you enter the user code, not the password - we'll get you trained up by the end of this thread.

If zone 1 is flashing, then there is a fault with the contacts. When you enter your user code, zone 1 will start flashing, but the it should stop after 20 seconds, so can you shut the front door, and set the alarm, and wait 20 seconds to see if it goes out. If you've got a sensor (a PIR) in the room, then stay very still so that you don't set it off.

If you take a photo, when you do your next post, you plug your phone into the computer, click on the paper clip above where you're typing, and then find the photo you want to upload.
