Hi there, I know these days, many homes don't get hw cylinders, they tend to have combi boilers.

I recently reserved a new build home, got all of the plans etc and could clearly see that I had an upstairs airing cupboard with hot water cylinder. Got to take a first (unofficial) look at the house yesterday and noticed that there is currently no hw tank in the airing cupboard but there are some pipes.

Also, they have fitted a relatively cheap combi boiler.
Does anyone know if a cylinder could be added to this system? This is for a three bed house...

What makes you think it is a cheap boiler?
What in your experience is a good boiler?

Looks like the plumbing is for boiler and cylinder, but a combi has been fitted due to house size.

I would imagine fitting a cylinder might be possible going by the MV seen in the picture

Ok, makes sense. Hopefully, they will at least fit one of those electric radiators in this cupboard as was really hoping we would get a proper airing cupboard.

The reason I think the boiler is cheaper is because this is about the third new build I have viewed with a view to seriously buying, but have probably seen 8 or 9 different properties. The majority I have seen have Potterton or Valliant. Never heard of Ideal. Also, have a friend who works building new builds, sent him a few pics and as soon as he saw the boiler, he said it was not great. I had not even mentioned anything to him about it.

I am pleased that you think the plumbing at least has the capacity to take a cylinder in the future.
Do you think this sort of system would be able to take a Nest thermostat or similar? There are two thermostats on each level.

fitting nest is no problem but i hate those zones valves ( reliance i think ), (y):) nothing wrong with the boiler as i expect your engineer don't know these boilers so he automatically hates them

If the plans for the house clearly show an airing cupboard with a hot water cylinder then I would suggest you inform the vendor / developer that the plumbers seem to have mis-read the plans and installed a heating / hot water system other than the system detailed in the plans.

You are not the first to experience this type of "error" by sub-contractors and you won't be the last.

To me that pipework looks like a combi set up with zones for upstairs and down. We would need to see the pipework looking up under the boiler to say for sure.

It's a big purchase - have a word ;)

The boiler is one of the main boilers for house bashers.

Its a relatively big combi being 35kw. Its been set up with upstairs down stairs heating. No need to see under the boiler ;)

An unvented cylinder could be in there. The issues you would have are. Need to find the hot and cold services and as I imagine that the airing cupboard will be in the middle of the house the discharge could be problematic.

New build boilers are chosen on who can give the biggest rebate ;)

Danfoss... But equally shyte.

Plumbers wouldn't have had the authority to change the spec.
