Hello all.

Had a bit of an issue with my current oven and it needs replacing. It's a single built in, housed in a standard 60cm cabinet from what I can tell.

Is there any way to get a double built under in there? They measure about 70 cm high.

It has a void underneath with a panel on top as shown in the pic. If I removed the panel and shelf holding the current oven the space would be increased to 68.5cm, which I assume (hope) is enough for the internals of a 70 cm double to get in to.

Is this feasible, or is there some other way to fit a double under, I read some might have legs that sit on the ground and the oven hangs over the plinth.

Thanks for any help.

That should do. There is no real difference in terms of the space - it's just the cabinet/housing which is fitted for a single oven which would not be fitted for a double.

The shelf for the current oven is probably on dowels or pins, in which case the easiest method of removal is to cut through it front-back, lift one side and push the other down to give space to remove each half.

Built under ovens usually sit on metal hangers attached to each side of the adjoining cabinets. The hangers are supplied with the oven.

Thanks for the reply flameport.

I have managed to find the internal dimensions of the oven I want, and having read up on it you're right, the double-unders are sat on brackets that are attached to the cabinets either side, but not to a specialised oven cabinet. So it looks like not just the shelf has to go but the entire carcass itself, this will open up the void enough to get the new one in as it won't fit in to the existing carcass.

Does this sound right? The measurements seem to be correct but I just want reassurance before I rip out a cabinet I can't put back in.

Possibly, but get the new oven and measure it yourself before destroying anything. Some will fit into the space inside an existing cabinet.

Thanks. Yeah it turned out fine, your first reply was spot on, I had to take out the bottom two shelves and put in metal supports on either side, wasn't too difficult.

Thanks.
