Comments on these hinges please!

Hey guys

I am after comments on these hinges after a long running saga with my suppliers.
What would you say, You order some timber windows from a big company that supply all types of windows. One of the things I asked for was butt hinges and they turn up with these monsters attached! Their brochures show this type of hinge on their doors but not on any of the window's. Am I being unreasonable in saying they are not acceptable?

They have offered to send me the same hinges in black but want to charge extra for them. I'm after comments to send when they try to send me a bill! I ordered them in April and have had them sat around for 2 month or so while we argue over these hinges.

As they have black hinges available, then they should have supplied them. But do the black hinges cost more than the silver ones do, or are you being charged for more than that. Is the difference sufficient to warrant just painting them yourself, because that'd give you a closer match to the frame colour - which isn't black.

They are having some specially painted black for me as I was complaining saying these are unacceptable.
I had asked for smaller normal hinges but they said they cant do that (due to the way they wrap around a rebate inside the frame and sash). The only option was these or friction hinges but those are huge and horrible too.

Their engineers came out last week to adjust the windows as they didn't open properly and they were supposed to bring the black hinges with them but didn't.
They hadn't said anything about paying extra for them until last week after the engineers had been.

I cant believe this company has been trading for nearly 200 years and cant do a normal hinge.

What's the 2 bits in the middle, is it packing or are they lock keeps?

Did the engineer fix the opening issues. As the hinge sits proud of the window, it's not going to open as cleanly as fricton hinge because the inner part of the window will catch against the adjoining window.

Yes they sorted the opening issue.
Just after comments on the size and look of the hinges (mainly from those in the trade) or are these pretty standard on timber windows nowadays?
This was going to be my first venture into timber windows since I started up on my own 10 years ago. I have always just said no to timber as they are always a pain in the butt but I thought I would give it a shot

Would I be right in thinking that if you open the window fully
you could lift the window off the frame?

No they don't lift off.

Any comments on how hideous they look guys? I was hoping to pass on a load of anonymous comments to the factory when I speak to them again from people in the trade.
I just wanted normal hinges

Ok, what the he'll are they, they look hideous and I would not be happy if you arrived at my house to fit windows with those hinges, need to be a lot more discreet than that

I'd want black hinges.

Those hinges are out of character for the style of windows. They are not colour matched, and really too large for the size of window, and would be more suited to a door, except because of the distance the pin is from the frame, they will always cause issues opening the windows, as they'll catch.

This company only do that butt hinge or this friction hinge which is just as ugly. These ones do not egress open to 90 degrees so I can use them anyway plus it would block a load of the view.

I just cant believe that a company that has been making timber windows and doors for 200 years does not have an option for normal hinges and hasn't had this complaint before.
