We are thinking of installing this in a dry room in our house, its a utility room which does have a washing machine in but this will be on the other side of the room (about 3m away). Can anyone tell me if i can strip the wires back and connect a 13a plug and plug it into the wall socket and it will work OK or is it going to cause problems? Right now we have a small delonghi oil filled rad in the room and whilst this is great we want something wall mounted. It won't be on all the time. I was just wondering if anyone can say? I have read this guide (http://www.kudox.com/wp-content/upl...dder-Towel-Rail-Installation-Instructions.pdf) which states a 3a fused connection unit is required, basically i just want to know is it going to work with a regular 3pin 13amp plug?

From an electric point of view, yes it will work, but the 13A plug should have a 3A fuse in it. Fused connection units are generally used for connecting fixed appliances, but there is a wide difference of opinion about whether this has to be in every case...

However, don't expect it to heat your room though. Most Delonghi oil filled radiators are rated at somewhere around 2000W. The towel radiator is only 150W. If your oil filled radiator is 2000W, you would need 13 towel warmers to match its heat output, and leave them all uncovered too! the output of a tower warmer can be virtually nothing when covered with fluffy insulating towels.

d4rkcell,
It will work fine with plug.
But you do realise that this kicks out only 150W of heat (or the same heat as produced by three old fashioned light bulbs), compared to the 2,000W that you Delonghi oil filled radiator is kicking out?
Also no thermostat so will be on all the time that you have it plugged in.

This might be better for you:

or any of these greater than 1000W and with thermostat:

d4rkcell,
Never used/seen, but it looks suitable for your needs, and should work okay with plug.

When will it be on, and why?

We have a dog who sleeps in the room and it is fairly cold, we will probably have it on overnight or at least for a few hours before we go to bed on a night to take the chill out of the room for the dog.

raise the dog's nest off the floor a bit, floors can be cold and draughty.

Ah, of course.

I wonder how long it will be before they manage to breed that lack of tolerance out of dogs? I know it will take a while, as dogs have not been around for long, and having only evolved after we developed heating then of course they cannot manage without it now, but who knows - one day they might even be able to live outside - imagine that, eh?
