Hi Guys,

I'm Looking at replacing my current Thermostat and wireless receiver (WR1)... form what i can see online the WR1 has the same back plate as the HIVE, therefore meaning i can just disconnect the WR1 and clip on the HIVE wireless receiver, failing that wire the terminals like for like.... can anyone confirm this?

I think the WR1 is a British Gas re-branded Drayton Digistat SCR

Many Thanks

if it is a hive single channel then yes but if you have a hive double channel then no

i am currently in the same boat - have you managed to change to the Hive yet? I assume you have a combi boiler so you went with the Hive Active Heating (rather than the one with hot water?)

I did go with Hive, very easy installation if you have the WR1 receiver, unscrew the 2 small screws on the bottom of the receiver, lift off the receiver and replace with the hive receiver... job done

Am I missing something? In both cases your wiring is connected to the hot water ON and hot water OFF terminals of the backplate. Surely the outputs should be from terminals 3 (HW) and 4(CH)?
And you're saying it was a straightforward clip off, clip on installation?

Yep mine looked like that, the new receiver clipped onto the back plate... check out the link to confirm in your wiring is correct

That’s not an image of mine, I don’t have hot water :), but mine was a straight swap and is working I can’t comment on the wiring above, but I had Netural, Live, Common and Heating connected previously and that’s what Hive also wanted - terminal 3 on a single receiver is CH on

Thanks Dean - I have a Greenstar Combi Boiler but I'm confused where the hot water part is coming from? I would have thought we'd have the same model...never is that easy is it!

On this link (WR1 = Drayton) (http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/sites/default/files/Digistat1RFUIGuide.pdf) it appears to say:
N = Neutral (same as Hive)
L = Live (same as Hive)
1 = Common (same as Hive)
2 = Heating satisfied or call for cooling (is this Heating off?)
3 = Call for heat (same as Hive for Heating on?)

i'm looking at the Hive Single channel by the way

am i missing something really obvious?

There are two versions of the Hive and their wiring is different.

@MeldrewsMate when you say that "the outputs should be from terminals 3 (HW) and 4 (CH)" This is for the dual channel Hive for controlling heating and hot water. For systems with stored hot water / hot water cylinder.

@ravsaidha what you have posted as copied below is for the single channel Hive receiver for combi boilers that provide instantaneous hot water when a tap is turned on and so they don't need any hot water time control.

Note: they don't need any connection to terminal (2).

N = Neutral (same as Hive)
L = Live (same as Hive)
1 = Common (same as Hive)
2 = Heating satisfied or call for cooling (is this Heating off?)
3 = Call for heat (same as Hive for Heating on?)

Hi @stem - thanks for clarifying this - i thought i was going a little bit crazy! in that case, what i have as a connection in place should really be a simple remove and replace (as @deanoc mentioned previously).

Hi @stem what i have as a connection in place should really be a simple remove and replace.

Yes, the WR1 is a British Gas product as is the Hive, so it is compatible with the Single Channel version of the Hive.

WR1 (N) 'Neutral' = Hive (N) 'Neutral'
WR1 (L) 'Live' = Hive (L) 'Live'
WR1 (1) 'C' = Hive (1) 'Com'
WR1 (3) 'Call' = Hive (3) 'Heating on'

Thanks @stem - that means the Hive Active heating product is single channel (as opposed to the one with hot water which is dual?)

Not exactly. Think of it like a car. A VW golf is the car, and you can buy it as a 3 door or 5 door version. In the same way, the 'Hive Active Heating' is the product and you can buy it as Single Channel or a Dual Channel version.
