Been told I need a new boiler...?

We inherited a Worcester 28CDI when we moved, which had been installed in 2004, but serviced annually. Its been leaking for the past few weeks, about half a pint a week. We had it serviced at the weekend and was told we needed to replace it as the parts are no longer available.

Im not exactly sure where it is leaking, possibly the heat exchange.. but theres also some white/green colouring to some of the parts (rust/corrosion?).

I dont have a clue about this sort of thing as was hoping someone could advise, or identify the parts from the photos... Bit tricky getting decent pics, but all from the underside...

Keep the boiler and sack the engineer. Looks like leak on diverter. Parts are available

These are an absolute barsteward to change, but they are available. Be prepared for a hefty bill, or get Worcester out on a fixed price repair

Been quote £2600 for replacement, so a repair would be favorable!

as already advised get a fixed price repair from Worcester think its about £270 but includes all materials and labour

Diverter as said.
I changed all the internal parts on mine as its water side with my old halstead.
Bit of a fiddle but £30 of parts a nd isolated boiler and an hours work on mine.

That said ive just had a new Glow-Worm ultima 30 which cost me £830 with a 10 year parts and labour warranty wit flue and remote fitted.
Got a plumber up the road to swap them over for £400.
Brilliant boiler and veryhappy.

Fix yours or buy and get it fitted, the all in prices are a bit eye watering.
Why pay someone over a grand for a days work?
My took less than 5 hrs start to heating on.

Done properly it's more than a days work for a start. Properly flushing the system can take a day on its own. Yours may have been launched onto the wall in 5 hours, but don't expect that warranty to count for toffee if there's any dirt in your system whatsoever. They'll take a water sample if you call them out (after they've relieved you of the £90 "security fee" Glow-worm now charge before they attend a warranty call, only to be refunded if they agree it actually is a warranty issue) check whether the gas pipe is correctly sized etc etc and decide from that whether your warranty is valid or not.

The difference between a cheap install and an "expensive" one is that the "expensive" one often contains additional essential extras which will both prolong the overall life of your boiler, and also significantly increase the chances of a warranty call being successful

This kind of work is getting more and more common. What aggravates the situation more is would be self proclaimed professionals fitting economy boilers and calling them top quality. Took out a 4 year old boiler, no room stat etc that needed constant repairs

Agree with Muggles re system cleanse. Time consuming exercise, no way can a drain down is a system cleanse. Absolutely no way a boiler can be fitting in 5 hours and benchmark be filled in with true and accurate data. Have seen inlet pressure at Gas vale cited as 20mb when often figure is a lot lower ( figure copied from spec sheet perhaps?)

Now had 4 quotes all come in around the same, so think I will bite the bullet especially as I was offered 10m 0% which makes it a bit easier to swallow! To get the 10yr warranty you do have to satisfy certain requirements, which as mentioned, include a flush, filter install and ensuring the pipe is the right size etc as well as ebing fitted by an authorised installer. Also, the annual service @ £84 each year must also be factored into the overall costs!

Kind of like a choice between having Norovirus or Syphilis, neither are particularly attractive options... there are much better boilers out there, with 10 year warranties, for less money

Read up/view videos/ ask around about Intergas... I am not affiliated but would highly recommend them, as would many other members on here... and, we care... wouldn’t be here otherwise!
