May be required by the manufacturers instructions.

May be suggested not required! MI are guidance only and don't have to be followed, especially when they are wrong.

Good practice, surely, (along with grommets).

(And on a few occasions the neon has alerted me to a ring left on unattended.)

Surely the neon only alerts to to the big red switch being left on. Surely you don't turn the big red switch on and off every time you use the cooker. It would cause the clock on the cooker to stop.

I do.

My cooker doesn't have a clock and even if it did I would still use the B.R.S.

My mum left the B.R.S. on for the cooker clock and left a frying pan on a ring that wasn't completely off when she went shopping. Came home to find the kitchen full of smoke and about a minute away from a conflagration. Not an experience I wish to repeat.

Plan B - turn cooker parts off using the controls for the cooker parts, not the isolation switch.

I don't see how you can't remember to do the former if you can remember to do the latter.

I wonder why I've had no problems with my shower switch which has been in place now for nearly 15 years, gets 2-3 cycles per day.....

I wonder if quality product and competent installation might have any bearing on it?

Out of interest, what make is it?

IME, the Crabtree round ones never seem to go wrong.

They are intended to be left on and not used as a functional switch, which will be on the shower. Why do you shower three times daily?

Why do you shower three times daily?

He never said he did. He said the switch was cycled three times daily. Perhaps there are three people there who each shower once.

Which means there would be three people to educate about it being meant to be left on and not used as a functional switch.

No it isn't.
Let's see.

Whose switch is it? Yours or mine?

In whose bathroom is it? Yours or mine?

Who knows best what it does? You or me?

Please do not make false assertions because you fail to recognise that your ignorance prevents you from making correct ones.

No it means that there are two people here to educate about not making false assertions because they fail to recognise that their ignorance prevents them from making correct ones.

He did state that he did it three times daily, because it is abundantly clear that two other people would not entertain his/her company day in, day out.
