Almost 1 in 4 people admitted to taking at least 1 item with out paying for it
 
Apparently many are using the "carrot" scam , pay for a carrot & take an Avocado

Sales of carrots have been soaring in the UK , 800 million more carrots were sold last year then in 2013

Several supermarkets have sold more carrots than it has ever had in stock , it was discovered that some customers were purchasing 18 kg of carrots in one go
 
If I recall correctly shops account for about 10% of stock as "shrinkage" or theft as it is commonly known.
