If the EU caused all the financial woes in Spain, Greece and Italy, why are the UK's financial bods so nervous about leaving? Surely the pound should soar each time Brexit is mentioned rather than plummet?

Maybe one should look at Iceland for how to deal with a financial crisis.
They are in the EEA and follow EU rules, but have their own currency.
When the banking crisis hit they let their banks fail, introduced currency controls and partially compensated their citizens.
Not only have they paid off their debts, but now they run a budget surplus and aim to have a zero national debt by 2030.
Whilst maintaining public services and being in a free trade/movement area.

So if we're looking for 'barometers'

I dont spend my time whining about how everything is terrible in this country and much better everything is in other countries.

Unlike a certain person......

I would prefer it if this country had better summers though.....a nice 3 or 4 months of sunshine would be perfect, not too hot just predictable dry summers with good weather during the week and into the weekend. how cool would that be

(I could of course at this point note that an amoeba and notch is an actual 'pointless comparison', but I wouldn't want to hurt the amoeba's feelings!)

Oh, and you better brush up on google notch. The nominal national dish is actually lamb, and more specifically hangikjöt.

Hákarl is a seasonal morsel most often eaten during the month of Þorrablót, and is an acquired taste.
(personally I prefer the raw home caught and hung for 6 months version myself)
But washed down with Brennivín it is an experience not to be missed.
(fun to watch the newbies faces though when they take a bite )

Plenty more odd food there, but then I've tasted most of it by now.

For the UK to be successful in the EU, I think we needed to join the Euro. We were just too big to be outside and half the discussions/policy in the EU were all about the Euro.

Yep, too many tourists - but tourism helped turn the economy around!

As for the Euro, I didn't believe it a good idea to join at any point.

But with what we have in store, I have a feeling that in years to come our tenure in the EU will be looked at as a success.

Don't forget that shortly after we joined we were the second poorest country in the EU - the 'sick man of Europe'.
The subsidies that other countries now get we were once beneficiaries of!

Still no answer to the customs issue or single market access. If this doesnt bother you then you are either leaving the uk before 29.3.19 or are living in ignorant bliss.

So they wanted a 'hard brexit'.

Until of course it happens, and then they'll blame the 'remainers' for all the repercussions!

Brexitters to a man are supposed to be real men who can admit they are wrong because they don't live on social media and have real jobs so can make real decisions. I await a Brexitter to admit he is wrong. This doesn;t mean Remainers can gloat - we simply said if we are to leave then show us what it means not decide after the referendum.

Not entirely - they will also blame the EU for punishing us.
