Long hedgcutter?

If I get the Stihl multi tool with extension and hedge cuter is that the longest hedgcutter I will get? Lots of people asking for high things to be cut? Are there any really high poles?

With the extra metre extension it'll be as long as it gets, really - after that its a staging that's needed, I reckon. You may get loppers longer of course but you can't prune with them.
Tip (nothing to do with the subject though)- pay great attention to the lubrication of hedge cutter attachments as the failure rate is high. Stihl have tubes of grease that you screw into a blanking hole. I remove the threaded blanks, drill a 5mm hole in them and tap 6mm to accept a conventional grease nipple.

So the extensions often break hey. Is the stihlmulti tool generally quite good though I mean the just with engine and different attachments ?
Was looking at km 94 engine. It's between domestic and total professional.

By staging, do u mean working with it off ladders?

Stihl gear is excellent quality, but the hedge trimmer mechanism - using gears and con rods - needs regular lube......I get many failures and the main one is the extended reach cutter with the angle head. They aren't always repairable due to 10mm needle roller bearings in blind holes (try getting those out ) and a replacement is £310 !
Best to look after them, I reckon. I had one come off hire a week ago and the head was full of water - goodness knows what the story was about that one.
A staging is a light duty mobile scaffold - a bit of a faff but so much safer than lying into a hedge!

So the hedge cutter bit in the multi set is the problem not the extension or engine? How about the all in the complete long reach Stihl hedgcutter ? Less problems?

I just liked the idea of multi tool with all the different parts to it-strimmer, chain saw etc

The blades will need the odd sharpen, naturally enough, and the head has to be dismantled to get the blades out.
With chainsaws, folks don't sharpen the chain so the operating temperature goes sky high......and can actually melt the machine
If you do buy, go for the genuine Stihl oil.

There is no less trouble with the all in one hedgcutter or another brand? They all need equal maintenance. I never remember maintenance. I am buying one this week so need to choose carefully. I mean I guess I would still have to rigorously maintain the all in all one or that could break too?


I force my hedge cutters through thick branches so really test them.

I'd recommend anything from either Stihl, Husqvarna or Honda and avoid any Chinese stuff like the plague unless its for strictly DIY and light duty work.

I don't want or need one, but I would attempt it myself cannibalising the parts as described in the video.

Failing that an engineering company - perhaps a garden machinery supplier with a maintenance facility - although I suspect the cost wold be prohibitive, if they were interested at all.

The Stihl multi tool with extension and hedgcutter attachment this week it is then. With the multi tool engine, would u get the KM94 (semi pro one) or for another £160 the professional engine? I won't use it everyday.

Stihl produce 3 types of engine.....the genuine 2 stroke using a petrol /oil mix, a genuine 4 stroke engine which has oil in it's wet sump and uses ordinary petrol, and a 4 mix engine which is a four stroke with valves but uses a total loss lube system needing a petrol/ oil mix !
Either of these will do you as they all have a two year warranty for private use - one year for commercial.
Visit your Stihl dealer and see what's on offer, but I think I'd go for the first type of engine with Aspen fuel.

I can't comment on battery gear I'm afraid - all my kit is petrol.
Gustharts is my local dealer - not far away and they are exceptional.
