Don't know what they're called and can't find them!

Hi folks, can someone give me a steer on this one? Usually, if you don't know enough about a product, 10 minutes with Google sorts the problem out, but I've spent months on this and am getting nowhere! All I'm looking for is a packet of those little plastic blanking plugs that are (usually) provided with a new switch or socket, specially of you buy a make like MK. You install the switch and cap the two screws with a couple of these plugs to give a neat look. I moved into a new place a couple of months ago and wanted to go round all the electric switches etc. finishing off the job with the aforementioned blanking plugs - but I can't find any reference to them anywhere online - can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what they're called & where I can get them?

You know they're not a standard size which fit any faceplate, right? You need the exact ones that fit your range of sockets/switches, if they are the type designed to take them in the first place.

If you cannot find them for sale on their own to match your accessories, you can buy a load of blank plates, just to get the screw covers that come with them. Some brands give you 4 per blank plate.


edit: it's worth turning off the power and taking a peek behind some of your switches/sockets to see if there are any spares left attached to the back of the faceplates.

Dont recall ever getting them with MK

Also never saw them with MK. Crabtree I think it was that did supply them. They needed to because the hole was much deeper and uglier than usual.

Otherwise I could suggest white playdoh. I used to used this to cover up screwheads when assembling headsets for the hard of hearing. Level with a flat tool and it looks fine, and can always be removed.

They were first supplied with Clipsal accessories (an Australian company) because they are a legal requirement in Australia where the screws don't necessarily screw into an earthed backbox.
