Load bearing or not.... Silly query

Hi all.. Silly query I think but worth asking...

I have a wall that stretched half way into a room m that I want to remove to open the kith and dining room a bit more....


I've stripped the plaster back and at only one point does anything from the floor above run perpendicular to the wall.. However at no point does anything touch or rest on the top of the wall.. There is at least an inch gap between the top of the wall and any timber from above...

Does this mean it's not load bearing?.. Any help would be most appreciated

If it's not touching it's not supporting, but it is probably touching a wall at one end which it could be supporting if it's a long run or a thin wall

Yeah it's touching the external wall..

I've removed plaster all the way to the external so I know nothing it restigg at any point but I guess it's just the question of whether it's holding walls up just by being there

I suppose there is a chance it could be providing lateral restraint to the external wall, but pretty unlikely.

If it's not tied into the ceiling/floor above, it won't be giving lateral restraint.

Thanks for the advice... Its interesting as someone must have extended the wall by a foot into the room as it is 90% breeze block type solid material and then a wooden frame.. . Again not touching anything other than extending the wall out a foot

This pic shows where the solid wall ends and frame begins... Looks like prev owners wanted a logger wall.. Hmm
