Vinyl clear out

What are you trying to say?

I didn't say vinyl was functional; i said it was an experience. A simplistic view is that the experience is valued far more highly than the functionality.

I think you're describing the nostalgia from your youth and the sentimental value you place on vinyl because of it.

The reason a vinyl record now trumps a CD in value is the same reason a 1981 Ford Escort is ten times the value of say a more recent and much better equipped second hand model.

Hawk will never get it.

I get it. I don't agree.

I've got boxes of CDs under my bed, hundreds of them.

An album was c. £15, back in the 80's and 90's.

Because I "know" you, make me an offer. Lowest I'll take is £50 a CD.(y)

I do find it amusing that vinyl has kept its value despite newer storage formats like VHS, CD and DVD being practically worthless. I suppose the inferior quality of newer formats and copyright issues had a lot to do with it.

Have you ever watched a DJ try scratching and mixing with CD's?

Most 'DJs' these days play from a pre-recorded mix tape as they either can't be bothered to mix/scratch and/or can't be bothered to lug about cases of vinyl records.

Raves are making a comeback. Those who collect vinyl are likely to have a pair of Techinics and a mixing board too. We are talking about people who collect records Hawk and the their value to those collectors.

That's a bit rubbish. The people buying most of the vinyl now are the 20-30 year olds. They didn't grow up with vinyl, so nostalgia or sentimental doesn't come into it.

People collect pretty much anything.

I don't know any 20-30 year olds that collect vinyl records
