I have always tried to buy BSI kitemark items however the 3 star euro cylinders are reasonable in showing it is robust but does not show which are the best and anti-pick, anti-bump proof but it seems a lot of locks can be picked looking on Youtube. The videos stopped me buying the yale 3star platinum. https://www.barnsleylock.co.uk/snap-secure-cylinder-comparison-guide-245-c.asp

Here is a list of the more recent secure by design police approved 'sold secure SS312 Diamond standard' locks:

I do not want to pay a lot of money, ideally less than £50. My current choice is between Cisa Astral S and Avocet ABS. Which is currently the best?

I replaced mine with Cisa, the ones with the highest anti pick rating etc. Snap resistance is just that, a blow with a hammer will break even the most secure. Its the sound that the hammer makes which deters potential intruders.

Blup

Not sure I know what you mean when you say 'blow with a hammer will break even the most secure', are you sure?

The ABS lock has passed all lock standards to the highest ratings of Sold Secure Diamond, TS007 3 star, Secured by Design and is also stamped with the Insurer preferred British Kitemark stamp of approval.

Didn't ABS stop doing their cash back security guarantee? That did make me wonder if they know something we dont
Ultron still do a cash back guarantee £1000 if someone breaks into your home via the cylinder.

I don't know which is better but I like a company thats prepared to but its cash at risk

The ultions have major problems still, just Google it

As well as.....

a decent lock is just a detterent you just need to appear harder to break into than neighbouring properties . We have ABS locks on all doors, no complaints here.

Just upgraded to ABS locks front and back here, seem very very good quality.

He means exactly that, a good blow with a hammer will break most secure locks so it is permanently unable to open - not break it open but break it closed. It's what they are designed to do - a good safety feature which is essential for the diamond list.

The CiSA Astral-S is the best anti-pick lock available for cheap but it is only 1 star on the BS-kitemark.

The Avocet ABS seems to be the one I will go for - although I really do not like the keys aesthetics - but it is solid and functional.

I got my Avocet for £35 because it was an unpopular size, 5mm too long on the inside of the door, which doesn't bother me! :D
