Opinions differ, but I prefer not to publish tips for housebreaking.

Thanks for your input on a DIY forum

I go out of my way to help DIYers - which at the start of the thread it looked like you were, and by the end of the thread, it's clear you were not

I also go out of my way not to help commercial enterprises, unless its something that they really need help with as a business.

For a landlord, lock changes and the law about lockchanges, are things that a landlord should know or have things in place to deal with. You have an HMO pulling in a tidy monthly sum, part of that is for things like this.

Can a landlord not be a DIY'er?
I'm hardly breaking even with the HMO, let alone a "tidy monthly sum"! That's for another time and place...

I am comfortable with lock changes under normal circumstances but have an unexpected situation here and hence the questions. I can understand the rationale for @JohnD comment above but struggling with your position @^woody^. I know you are helpful as you've helped me in many instances in the past...

Thanks for the help guys.
Update - the other keys worked fine. The issue only affects my key. I will re-test tomorrow and - yes, I definitely have the correct key!

I can understand, this is a DIY site, there are professional trades on here who give their advice and experience for free to DIY'ers, the dynamic is different to someone effectively running a business, whereby it is understandable that it is within their remit to absorb the costs of said business as part of their costs.

Have you been able to access the property with the tenants not there (ie using your own key) recently?

Then take one of the working ones and get a new one cut? I'd check the lock hasn't been changed though.

My key definitely does not work. I am 99% that the cylinder has not been replaced...
I will have a new key cut tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.
