Hi All, I cleaned out my mira shower filter a few weeks ago as we were losing hot water through it. The first time I have done this in 9 years! It was clogged so I cleaned it and put it back together. Only 3 weeks later I am having to do it again and it is clogged again with a salty like substance. Is this limescale? Living in central Scotland, limescale is not something I have had to deal with so I am surprised if it is.

any thoughts on how to stop this?

Thanks!

limescales normally a hard deposit that looks almost gel like (you do get some limescale and general mineral scale in scotland but not after 3 weeks from just cleaning it out)

is the shower fed off the mains water or is it from a hot water cylinder with storage tanks in loft?

Thanks.
Its a pressurised closed system. Hot water cylinder with a pressure tank.

Could it be some sort of faulty scale reducer that has started discharging chemicals into the system, like siliphos balls?

There was a similar posting with white grunge a month or so ago...AFAIR it turned out to be the plastic baffle in a Megaflo breaking down.

it is definately not limescale, do you get it in both ports cold and hot ?

Has there been any work recently on the outside pipework? or on the mains anywhere?

Is the material gritty?

Hi All. Answers to above.
Its just on the hot side.
We dont use softener.
No work has been happening that i am aware of.
It is gritty when rubbed between your fingers.

Its a Megaflo high efficiency.

Thanks gasguru. Looks exactly the same issue.
Is this a new tank i need then? Any idea of cost for such a job?
