I don't agree with that statement, shot for fun? hmm... As you may be able to tell I've been on a fair few shoots, the pheasants or partridge etc are definitely shot for eating, furthmore I've experienced and seen wily old country folk physically wince when they've made a bad shot. The "fun" is in the quick clinical despatch.
Is this an interesting read?
https://theecologist.org/2018/oct/01/pheasant-shooting-massive-waste-life-reports-marianne-brooker

"Around half the millions of birds shot during the new pheasant shooting season - which opens on today - will never make it to a ‘game’ dealer, according to independent research.

According to the Savills ‘Shoot Benchmarking Survey 2017/18’, on average only 48 percent of the birds shot will be taken by game dealers.

With the number of pheasants being bred to be killed estimated as at least 27 million each year – though potentially much higher – the number of birds killed ‘purely for fun’ is at an alarming level.

Chris Luffingham, director of campaigns at the League Against Cruel Sports, said: “Shooting estates are churning out millions of factory-farmed pheasants and partridges into the British countryside, only for the birds to be gunned down and thrown in the incinerator, buried or fly-tipped by the roadside."

There is probably truth in those articles, however all the beaters and volunteers are paid with guess what.

The "race" is used in place of the socially accepted model of "ethnicity".
It means really a child of mixed ethnicity.
Not according to the definition of ethnicity.

Maybe it's an outdated, leftover expression from the Victorian era.
Or, of course, it is correct.

Are you suggesting that their 'race' changed? They transformed into a different race?
If not, please explain what happened.

Don't forget to say what you call that difference.

According to the survey/article, money.

So anyway, half of birds shot not eaten sounds an awful like a 'fun' blood sport. If the supply outweighs demand, then surely, to stop the suffering, supply should be more limited?
I guess won't happen though, because some people enjoy killing things.

So anyway, half of birds shot, not for meat, sounds an awful like a 'fun' blood sport, not shot for a meat industry.

Well I certainly don't know about all shoots, but the ones I've been involved with have been for the eating. Don't get me wrong, when "some" of the city gents come along, then yeah sure we all know they're being right royally fleeced.

Ethnicity is synonymous with race.

You mean why do some people have black skin, etc?
Morphological differences. People morph into a shape, style or culture that encourages their survival, or even determines their survival.
Some people have black skin because it offers better protection against the sun, etc.
Maybe some people have differently developed lungs to assist their diving skills etc.
It's a genetic development. It is inherited form their ancestors. It is not a different race.
They didn't change into a different race. They just developed subtle differences. But they are still part of the one human race.
Body builders don't change into a different race because they change their shape or form.
Athletes don't change their race, etc.

We work on a couple of estates where they have shoots and breed pheasants and partridges for that purpose

Had the misfortune of working in s building that was in the middle off a Saturday morning shoot

Wounded pheasants dive bombing into buildings one hit s window

Quite.

At least the pheasants have a chance to escape. Unlike us who have to read some of the dire dribble spouted on here.
