Wiring a kitchen cooker extractor

Hi all

I had my extension finished back in september signed off and everything by sparkys and building control.
Ive been slowly doing the kitchen and now coming to the cooker hood. The power to which is situated as below - as you can see its just a socket hanging next to the extractor flue.

Should this socket in fact be a fused switch??? The extractor cable itself has the normal 3 bare wires for connecting up

I was just thinking of putting in a back back box and fused switch and wiring up the extractor to that

Would that be OK???

Did think of hiding in the chimney but thats not the right thing I hear???

Regulations-wise - not if it is connected to the light circuit. Probably (depends) if connected to the cooker circuit.

That is advisable as a switch would be beneficial

You heard wrongly. You can if you want.

However the cable if buried in the wall must be run vertically or horizontally to the fused switch if more than 150mm from the ceiling.

I dont think its on the lighting circuit - but will check just in case
