As the title says, I want to fix a plastic spigot into the end of a steel pipe to achieve a waterproof joint. TIA

Araldite is one of the best epoxy adhesives there is....most others are a clone of it in some way.
However, its not really suitable for bonding plastic to metal......especially if the plastic is soft and there is pressure involved. You may get away with it.
For a genuine purpose made adhesive, consider Loctite Abelstik 45.

I use Penloc at work, dries in about 5 minutes, sets hard in 24 hrs.
Sticks stainless steel together well, the only way to get it apart then is to use a gas burner and heat it up very very hot and pull hard.
Sticks like poop on a blanket.

Would a UV cure adhesive be useful for this? These are normally used to bond metal and plastic to glass to form a high strength and water resistant joint, that dries clear.

Thanks woody, have you got a name

Not sure what the spigot or pipe are for but could it not be threaded and use proper plastic pipe fittings?
