I have noticed on the local television, when subtitles are on American news programmes or chat shows, that when the presenter says "people of colour" ('coloured people' apparently being offensive for some reason), the translation is "people not white" (adjectives being after the noun).
We could say,for example, "...is the first non-white person to be elected...".
This seems a very simple way to avoid the word colour altogether - especially, of course, when white is a colour and black is not.
No doubt this is the fault of the U.S., but the English speaking world does seem intent on making things as ambiguous and confusing as possible by abusing the language, actual misuse of words - and, of course, downright lies.
This would seem to be intentional in the modern world to bring about the state that no one really knows what is going on.
Consequently, even we here on G.D., have endless futile arguments because some people are intent on promoting and extending this state of affairs by refusing to acknowledge indisputable definitions.
We can only presume that they are part of the system intent on suppressing knowledge and freedom of speech.
1984 was a warning; not a manual.
