Hi guys,

If ok can i pick your brains again please.

Work has started and not really a good first day. We are trying to locate the manhole in the garden which will be hooked into the waste drainage of the extension.

It turns out every house in our row of 6 but 1 has built over theirs. Mine is likely under a slab but worst case under the water feature!

I am always thinking worst case so what if they just aren't able to locate it?

The soil stack in the house at the moment is going to be too fiddly to connect to and was due to be removed and put on the outside wall. (ugly looking).

We have a gully next to the wall taking the bath/basin waste from the bathroom upstairs and kitchen downstairs. Hopefully they have traced the position from there today.

The pipe running through the garden is nearly 4 1/2 ft deep based on work done further up the run and we are lower on that run. They didn't go deep enough to expose this yesterday.

Apparently the pipe is possibly pitch fibre which isn't great. We haven't had any issues with it touch wood.

What are the options here? can you connect to the gully? (assuming this doesn't go into a soak away which it shouldn't)

Thanks again for all your help.

Bacon, eggs and beans please Woody!!

Your gully won’t go to a soakaway, it will join the same drain as the soil stack.

The pitch fibre will go as far as the manhole then that will have a clay channel. You could replace it while your at it but be careful, apparently the pitch fibre has asbestos in it.

Thanks for your help.

Building regs allow you to remove the gully and connect a stack to it?

Also going to need a saniflow for the downstairs loo.

The run is about 5 or 6m to the existing soil pipe and even more to get to the hidden drain outside. Number 1's only sign going up in that room :)

Are you sure you need a saniflo? A 6m length of soil pipe only needs 3" of fall.

This is the layout. The floor is concrete as its from the original garage,

I think we are going to use the existing SVP for the new bathroom upstairs.

You might fit a pipe within the raised garage floor (assuming it's currently lower than the house floor), or along the side wall under the kitchen units if you find your manhole where you think it is. Anything to avoid a macerator.
