Problem with down lights

Good evening,

I'm having an issue with my downlights and have one that I think is blown.
I'm not sure how people wire in lights when there are multiple. These ones are low voltage and I think this is the last in the chain, with this, I have a few questions.

Do you guys normal wrap the ends in tape, I'm sure it's needed:

I think the live has touched metal and blown the transformer, can i still buy these or do I need to replace with mains ones?

Tape is not required, however:
All of those connectors and the coloured wires should be enclosed in a box with suitable cable clamps.
The cables should not be trailing over the back of the lamp, as they will be damaged by the heat.
The lamp is installed too close to the wooden joist.
Insulation should not be placed close to the lamp or the transformer.

In summary, the whole lot is a dangerous lash up.

The transformers can still be obtained, although it is more usual to have 230V lamps which do not require one.
This also makes replacing them with LED lamps much easier, as although 12V LED lamps can be obtained, they may not work properly or at all with devices designed for halogen lamps.

Connections should be in an enclosure (junction box) with only the sheaths exposed.

Thank you so much for the replies.

I'm quite worried not so am going to re-do all of the lights with those junction boxes.

I've been reading up on forums and they said as it's a loft I could use terracotta pots to cover the lights, have you done anything like that before or is it better using the proper covers?

If it was me Id replace the whole lot with LED.

Wago junction boxes and wago connectors are good.

Some new downlighters come with their own springloaded terminals

have a look at the enlite range ..... but please change those lights
