Intergas boiler

As with all equipment, installers..... install, service technicians...... service , repair technicians...... fault find and repair

A few can do all three.

Well if it's an Intergas then the repair technician will be from them. I would rather find someone who is a well regarded installer and wouldn't that also imply he can service the boiler?

Isn't that the sales pitch of all these boilers with extended warranties -have them installed by accredited installers and then have them serviced annually? If a fault occurs its on the blower to the Manufacturer.

You would think so. If the service is a purely routine process then by following a list of instructions an installer probably could carry out a routine service. The problems arise when the list of instructions does not include exactly what has to be done when the service process uncovers something that is wrong in the boiler.

Excellent point and isn't this the time when a competent person calls Intergas? Isn't that where they are supposed to step in.

I know domestic boilers are built and priced according to the market. How many people would opt for a £300 Hotpoint washer instead of a Miele with 10 years warranty at triple the cost? I assume the same applies to Boilers - people are hunting for the cheapest boiler and install.

I was willing to give IG a go in one of my properties and possibly my parents but the thought of a hot slug of water being the first thing that hits them -NO WAY (maybe I advise my Inlaws to get an Intergas :ROFLMAO:)

Bad design it seems papered over by clever marketing. Only four moving parts!

These comments may or may not apply to Intergas

The technical department staff of many manufacturers lack the necessary knowledge and experience to be able to remotely diagnose a fault on the equipment their employer sells.

The worse of these are those "help desks" where the agent has a screen of questions and multiple choice responses. Then like a robot the agent reads the screen to the caller and then selects the multiple choice answer that is nearest to the response from the caller.

Heard so much about them on here I thought I'd find out more. No joy though.

As I recall from some of the Intergas promotional publications the marketing was originally targetted at Housing Associations and Rented accomodation. Hence the boiler was "designed" to be primarily "Landlord Friendly" as it would be the landlords who paid for servicing and repairs and not the tenants.

I'm a Landlord but the thought of being called by a tenant saying their toddler got scalded by a faulty boiler. I would have the Council down on me in a second.

Rather fit a Baxi (isn't that a landlord boiler?) :ROFLMAO:

Does it have to be faulty to produce the hot slug ? Several reliable sources have mentioned that the hot slug comes out of the boiler every time a hot tap is opened when the central heating is running.

I meant to say the consumer / tenant will assume it's faulty but not know that it is a design fault. Then I assume the landlord would be forced to change the boiler - which then get back to the original point - how were these ever recommended to Councils? I assume not many took them up on their offer.

I await Intergas engineers to comment. If they don't their silence speaks volumes.

Review of Intergas Xtreme boiler install. Had me a small extension built and decided to renew my boiler as it was a 26year old Glow worm open vent system. I decided to move the boiler from my hall to the new extension where it would sit in a kitchen cupboard. I did my homework and decided on an Intergas Boiler for its obvious benefits. I decided to use only an Intergas accredited installer as its obvious most problems are caused by boiler installers not knowing what they are doing when unfamiliar with the type. Getting one was a little harder tho! I came and had a look but never got back. I came and gave me a decent quote but for where he wanted to put it. One gave me a quote but was so booked up that it seemed years away. Finally, working down the list on the Intergas Website Ali from HT heating in Leeds came. He listened and quoted for exactly what I wanted. He advised me too. At this time the Xtreme came available and I decided to go for that model in its 30KW version so for just under £2.9k I got the boiler and pipework fitted and the removal of the old H/W and C//W tanks and conversion to a combi system. Ali fitted a filter to boot and the supply for the hot and cold water for a washer and downstairs toilet and basin for the extension in the price. It was fitted with out fuss and set up perfectly at the end of April 2019.

Since then I have enjoyed flawless performance. Hot water is hot and plentiful with a deep bath run in minutes. Some people say that these boilers are dangerous as you get a shot of super hot water from the supply if the heating is on, total B@lls set the water temp on the bolier itself to 60Deg C and its fine. In central heating mode the radiators are hot in about 10 minutes. In operation the boiler is super quiet and unobtrusive. It is pared with a Nest E thermostat and works well with it. All in all its fantastic boiler. THE KEY IS THO get an Intergas approved installer who actually fits these and knows what they are doing and sets it up right.

if it is set up properly you wont have any HW surge problems
If the CH water is set to 75-80C, either manually or via weather compensation, the first slug of hot water out of the Intergas will be that temperature. That is the nature of the beast. The only way not to is to restrict the maximum CH temperature. But this may not be hot enough to heat the house in extreme cold weather. The only way around it is to increase the rad size to operate at lower temperatures.

I can say in all honesty from using HW with the boiler off and on (set at 70 deg c) that the transition from cold to hot water at the tap is gentle and I have never experienced any slug of hot water. Sounds like an urban myth to me!

This was NOT from an Intergas or combi boiler set too high but simply the burn you said didn't exist as you've not seen it.

Hot water damage to human tissue; the regs were tightened regarding hot water supply a few years ago after two deaths of children and some serious eventually fatal burns to the elderly who cannot react quickly enough to get their bodies out of seriously hot water.

See you at the sharp end.

I have seen plenty of them and worse, usually caused by parents I am afraid who don't check the water temperature, bit of a pointless analogy. I doubt if that baby could at that time hold a rattle never mind undo a tap to release a slug of hot water

Here's a car crash

and it was not caused by an Intergas boiler and your point is??????????????
