Permission from neighbours to bury cable

...have been researching generators in more detail today as it happens. Lots of options, dump it in a corner and exhaust through hole in the back wall, easy as that?
Not necessarily quite that - small portable gennys don't usually have an 'exhaust pipe' (like a car has) from which one could direct the exhaust gases through a hole in the wall. More likely that (like with mine), you'd have to pull it out and run it in front of (or behind) the garage (in free air) when you need to use it - but most come with wheels, so that 'moving' is no great burden.

One potential issue might arise if there are any people close enough to your garage to moan about the noise - but, from what you've described, that may well not be an issue.

Kind Regards, John

If it were in your garage you would be annoyed with the noise too.

What about an overhead wire on cantenary.

From the end of your garden to the wall on the garage ?

Or even some temporary type flexi cable extension from the end of your garden on maybe 16A commando socket. If your only going to use now and again.

Much cheaper

Inverter generators are very quiet and would prevent you p****** off the neighbours.

It all comes down to how much you intend to use the garage , spending thousands on powering a garage which will only be used from time to time is not cost effective

Thanks all for the advice on generators, it's almost certainly going to work out cheaper unless something miraculous happens.
I'll draw up a shortlist of suitable candidates and I know where to come if I'm stuck. I'll go through the thread and mark all the thanks. Cheers!

I think that it would probably be almost impossible to spend as much on a small generator (appropriate to your requirements) as you would pay with even the most optimistic estimated cost of the alternatives.

As I implied, it's not even a (safe) option, because, with any small generator I've seen, the garage would rapidly fill with exhaust gases, even with the door open.

What are you planning on doing?
Cordless tools are getting cheaper by the month and a rechargeable led flood work light is about £25 on Amazon

Amongst others, a table saw, which although there are some cordless options alternatives, I'd rather not. Plus dust collection is simpler too. It had crossed my mind though

a rechargeable led flood work light

Be carefull that the work light provides constant light as opposed to one that produces high frequency pulses of light that appear to the human eye as continuous light. The pulsed light can have a stroboscopic effect on high speed rotating machinery making it look as if the machinery is moving slowly or stationary.

what exactly are you hoping to do with the table saw ??
