I have a 3 bed link detached house with an attached single storey garage that protrudes out beyond the front of the main house by about 1 meter and then extends across the front door to provide a porch area. See pic. I want to knock the existing garage down and rebuild it 2 meters wider and then build a 4th bedroom above it. One if the first hurdles is the fact that the gas meter and combi boiler are currently sited on the outside wall of the existing garage.

There isnt really anywhere else that I can site the boiler and will eventually want it back on the new outside wall of the garage. The electric meter are also in the garage, although they are on the internal wall - which will remain. My question is, would it be possible to build a block work wall inside the front of the garage, just over a meter in from the front roller door - I could then demolish the front porch and the part of the garage that protrudes forwards without having to demolish the entire garage. I would then like to build the new structure around the existing garage (new footings would be 2 meters outside existing). The 1st floor joists of the new build would be higher than the existing garage roof joists. Once I got the new build water tight, I could have the boiler and meter removed, the existing garage demolished from inside, and then re-site the boiler and meter.

Is there a better alternative?

Thanks for taking the time to read all that- of u got this far....

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just leave a section of wall with the meter and boiler in place, and build around it.

Because the new wall will be 2 meters further out from the existing wall. Also, I want to try and keep the existing garage water tight for as long as possible during the build. Dont know if what I've described is very clear or not.

And, as soon as I demolish the existing garage, the electric consumer unit and meter will be exposed to the rain until the new roof is built.

What difference does that make?

You would leave the section of wall up, and part of the roof, or make a temporary cover. Build around it until you can waterproof the new work, then relocate the boiler and meter, then knock down the section of wall and make good the floor.
