Nissan Note - petrol - Any good?

Have been looking for another motor for a while and I think I've narrowed it down to
a NN or maybe a Toyota Yarris. Around 2009 - 2012 model

I know they're quite different cars but are there any owners or previous owners that can
maybe spare a bit of insight as in what to look out for or what to avoid maybe?

Looking for lowish road tax, £150 or less. Is the 1.2 NN any good.
Thinking the 1.4 is more suitable idk. I like to drive steady and not really interested in oomph.

I can't comment on the Yaris but I've found the Note to be generally very good - its a roomy, clever design with sliding back seats and a double boot floor.
The early models (2006 to 2009) have a severe problem where the front subframe that holds the engine and suspension breaks away from the bodyshell with catastrophic results...avoid that one! Inspection is vital.
Corrosion isn't a problem and the paintwork is generally good.
Engine wise, the dci is a good one, petrol wise listen for noisy timing chains and service history. They shouldn't burn any oil at all.
Go for a facelifted car if you can - that's after 2013. They are much better built and have more gadgets but check for working A/C if fitted. Most have plastic body kits.
Its a lightweight vehicle so expect good tyre wear but regular replacement of front discs will be necessary. The rears are drum. I've fitted the odd front spring and rear shock absorber, all completely straight forward.
Check that the fuel filler cap opens with its pull lever - its a sod to sort!

Went to look at one the other day. He was selling it on behalf of his sil, or so he said. I already didn't trust him as I often see
cars for sale on the verge outside his house. Wants £2150 for an 06 showing 55k, it was pretty much mint cond but still well
over priced imo. He made a remark saying "you're paying for the badge" "highest quality blah blah". Gave me a chuckle!

Thanks yes I will look out for that, did try to google that subframe problem it but couldn't find much info tbh. It's finding one private, local to me is a problem, not much choice. Going to have to look further afields by the look of it.
 
Bought 2010 Note diesel in 2011, wife drives it short and medium journeys - averaging 50+ mpg (fuel to brim against miles covered).
Sat nav, A/C etc all working fine - a few sets of front brakes - It is a black car which had some kind of Nissan paint treatment applied, car is parked on drive never garaged - cleans up very nicely.
Possibly the end of a long, good, association with Nissan - started with a 1988 'Sunny' bought in '89 - peerless little vehicle, changed in 1999!

Probably a Toyota Hybrid next.

For sure, Mrs. B has had 3 Notes - all diesels - and went looking for another but sadly their life is over. Didn't like the Micra, got a rude reception from SEAT (not a good move) and ended up with a Honda HRV......diesel again.
I guess I'll consider a hybrid when its time for me to change, although I don't like the idea particularly - but I also don't want to look like a pariah driving a diesel!

Understandable, John. They still burn pariahs in Cumbria, don't they ?

or should it be "They burn you on a pariah " ? Tricky things - words !
 
I would favour Toyota over Nissan too.

Here are some prices. The red 2013 (12 plate) for under £3K seems better value. Newer model too. Not sure what your budget is though.

There's also a silver one bang on £3K with Toyota SH.

I had an 06 Note for 3 years until someone wrote it off for me.

I have to say it was a great little car. Very roomy, great visibility, and reasonably reliable.

The flexibility was incredible. The front passenger seat could go flat, so you can fit in a huge amount of stuff. Managed 2 single bedframes and mattresses in mine once, as well as countless 2.4m fence posts
 
Missed out on a really nice local note I saw on fb. Sold by the morning before I had chance to message and view it.
Gone off them a bit as not keen on their low profile tyres they all seem to have.
 
The tyre aspect ratio for the Note is usually 55 or 65, but the latest models had 16” rims I believe......don’t let that put you off if you can find a good one.
They ride the usual potholes well, and the tyre size is well matched to the car, in my opinion.
