hi, my underfloor heating has suddenly stopped working. I'm no electrician but I've checked the continuity of the floor (load) heating circuit ,and it checks out ok.i.e. circuit appears to be intact. Then i tried the sensor circuit next and it wasn't?, but then i'm not sure what to expect from this really?

Does the sensor circuit run along side the actual heating circuit or just to a specific point under the floor tiles?, is it a continuous loop ?, should i expect a reading on the multimeter across this when the whole system is switched off ?

Any help massively appreciated.

The sensor is a single item at the end of a cable, usually located a short distance away from a wall. It should be in a conduit so that it can be easily removed and replaced.

right... and if i were to check the resistance across the 2 wires that go the sensor - should i expect a resistance reading? when the system is not switched on?

(like i said... no electrician)

Yes, the resistance depends on the type, but usually in the kΩ range. Open or shorted is bad news.

This is the usual arrangement:

i see... i assume the sensor is typically in the middle of the floor, right?. it makes sense to take the reading from there i guess.
