BMS supply

Just been to look at a little job of installing a supply for a BMS.

It’s only a small panel and needs a 32A SP&N supply

I have the option of supplying it from either the main panel board via an MCCB, or a local dist board via an MCB.

Either supply is about the same amount of work, but I was just wondering what most people would prefer to do.
 
Are you referring to a main control panel?

I'd be looking at whats in the BMS panel and if there's stuff not relevant to the MCP then power it from elsewhere. If the BMS is solely for the MCP then that's where the power comes from.

It also depend on whether or not the site policy is for the BMS to remain on when the door interlocked isolator is off.
 
On all the BMS panels I work on, the supply for the BMS and a 'computer' socket comes from the live side of the MCP isolator with suitable warnings.
BMS panel always remains on with doors open so alarms can still be sent to the headend. (Gas solenoid, fire alarm etc)

The BMS just runs the heating system, so boilers, pumps, gas valve, etc.
I’m not sure what MCP is? To me this is a manual call point on a fire alarm.

There is some live kit inside the panel with the isolator off, but there are warning labels, and a key or tool is required to access this, plus the boiler room is not somewhere where the public are allowed to access so not too much of an issue as far as I’m concerned.

I think this is getting a bit confused.

Is there an existing control panel? it could be called a control pannel, main control panel [MCP] or any other name for that matter like boiler, plant, plantroom, pump, heating, cooling etc followed by panel or control panel or anything else.
If there is what does it do?
And is the new panel just housing the electronic parts to control the other panel?

In that case it doesn't matter where it's fed from, other than emergency power etc. does the customer have an opinion?
 
I would have suggested the MCCB if practicable , anyone working or maintaining the local DB would preferably be isolating that DB, or a fault could take out that DB's supply. by using the MCCB, "Continuity of service" is increased
