Just seen this in the DT on an article about getting schools ready for returning pupils: how many serious injuries/fatalities are we going to get now....?
Bloody ell Conny, bit strict....Mind you,,our school, seperate playground for boys and girls..And Seperate school fields...But mixed class..Bloody Nuts.forbidden to hold the banister as it 'encouraged laziness and lack of upright bearing.
Now that's interesting. When I was at school in the late 60's early 70's we had to walk on the left
I have been opening kissing gates with my foot, hopping about like Michael Flatly, I just avoid those routes nowfunnily enough I went for a walk yesterday -and tried to climb up over a stile without touching anything -then after nearly falling off it, I thought 'nah, thats silly wont be doing that again'

Sure that's a school - looks like a Victorian asylumJust seen this in the DT on an article about getting schools ready for returning pupils: how many serious injuries/fatalities are we going to get now....?View attachment 193245
Same at my school - but we were allowed a " review " once a year where pupils impersonated the teachers. I'm still in touch with 3 old boys - one was a great impersonator. The teachers had so many idiosyncrasies. One used to twitch like tourettes, but we didn't take the **** because his back was full of German schrapnell . Another chemistry teacher used to chain smoke senior service, and would go into the store room for a fag every lesson.Very strict, but fair, all boys High school. Teachers wore mortar boards and black gowns, though one or two rebels like Mr Hughes, (History), and Mr Gallagher, (Tech Drawing), wore suits. Full school uniform at all times in school or you were sent home to get changed. The time you lost going home/coming back was served as a detention doing the work you missed. If you misbehaved outside of school hours and the police were involved you were up on the stage at morning assembly to be humiliated in front of your peers. Caning was still allowed in those days but I'm happy to say I never got it. Had a few detentions for late homework or if the class had been a bit rowdy but most lads just kept their heads down and got on with the learning.
Now that's interesting.
Because I've noticed over the years (but even more noticeable in the last few months), that most people have gone 'continental'.
Namely when out walking people moving to the right.
Or maybe it simply mirrors the political direction in the UK?
Our Geography teacher always went in the stationary cupboard to booze during lessons. Was only years later I discovered he accidently killed his son by reversing into him on the drive...Poor Bugger.
